Spent the afternoon at Tomas. Hoover, from turbohoses.com, came through with a custom 4" 90° hight-temp silcone elbow, twice the thickness of their normal elbows (2-day turn-around!). Also dropped off some pretty sweet constant-torque 4" hose clamps, and some 2.5" hump hoses, elbows, etc., to complete the FMIC piping.
Flexpipe, 02 sensor ports, and wastegate dump tube will go in on Wednesday. Hopefully I'll finally get around to machining my wastgate mount bracket before then. Pretty much done designing my new MAF setup, but I guess I could still start it w/o a MAF. Probably ggoing to eventually make some aluminum fittings for the crank breather to attach to the intake, etc. ![]() ordered a couple too many. only ended up needing one. thanks to burnsstainless.com ![]() driver side FMIC piping. couldn't navigate the tight spot in front of the battery with mandrel bent piping, unfortuantely. ![]() ![]() passenger-side IC piping. clears axle and crank pulley. gonna need a stablizing bracket off the block though... ![]() ![]() this thing could consume small animals! YEA HUM! ![]() More Pictures |

Are you running a 4" pipe everywhere on the entire intake? What difference do you think a 3" would make. I was thinking of going this route with the same gt30 turbo. Are you going to run a standalone? What have you done for the injectors? Figured out anything yet?
TIA

![]() yup, you can see the 4" elbow at the base of the aluminum pipe, that goes right on to the compressor. i honestly can't say whether a 3" would have been better or not. eventually, i wanna run 580cc's worth of injectors, and since that turbo will really suck air at full boost, i figured i could get away with a 4". yah, if the MAF doesn't work out, i might have to go stand-alone. havent decided if i want your typical stand-alone setup or possibly even an ECU emulator. cost is about the same, but an emulator doesnt require an extra set of sensors. anyway, that stuff will work itself out is it becomes necessary. injecors are same as Apr's stg3, 360cc off the 225TT. I'm gonna copy APR's setup: up the fuel pump (probably inline one), 4bar FPR. proly put me up to around 400cc/min, which should get me well over the 300whp goal. |

You said you designed the system, but if I understand correctly you didn't do any theoretical checks.. or did you?
If the amount of air that the turbo can pull in, is available information then you can easily check the velocity...

Is that pipe swagged prior to the 90 intake of the FMIC?

i'll post my turbo specs and such when i get it scanned. i'm gonna put together a webpage eventually that'll have all my theoretical calculations.
the 4" is overkill for the 360cc injectors. once (or if) i get the secondary injectors to work, or find bigger injectors that work, then the 4" might be more effective. i have to admit, altho i ran thru the turbo specs, the 4" compressor inlet and the turbo choice was george's (of ATP) idea. so altho i knew the performance specs i was going for at the time, it was him who suggested the turbo, i cant take credit for taht. sorry if i am giving the impression that this is all 100% me. initially, the project was in George's hands, then I decided i wanted more control of it. now, Tomas sports tuning has been involved (Tim, Ken, and Andy), and George still helps a bit. this project definitely has had a lot of contributors. sean helped out with the intake manifold and FMIC too! |
