Default Project BOOSTTT update + pictures

Finally got to work on the hardware install. Clutch is still a b1tch to drive around town since it is REALLY grabby. May be the price I pay if i want a lot of power, but I may bite the bullet and shell out money for the stratmosphere clutch too... we'll see.

Anyway, intake manifold and FMIC went in today.

Here is Sean's original prototype Forge FMIC, the smaller version. For some reason there weren't any mounting points that matched the bracket, so just had to tap into the support. no biggie. also had to ask sean for advice on how he ran his IC pipes. i think i'm going to try and save my aliens.

here's the intake mani. swapped out the 290cc injectors and put in the 360cc 225TT injectors. rerouted the injector wires, sensors, etc. i'll post more pics later, but there is a harness underneath the manifold for some of the vacuum hoses that also holds the dip stick that doesn't attach properly, since it appears to be different for the 225TT. sean confirmed this (thanks sean!), and suggested a good solution (more pics tmrw).

the harness.

here is the good stuff:

Garret GT30R turbo, ATP exhaust manifold, Tial 35/40mm hybrid wastegate (their new one).

too tired to write-up anymore, but there are more pics here.

exhaust manifold, turbo install to come tomorrow, before it is off to bakersfield to get all the necessary pipes mandrel bent...

Because I dont own a quatrro

Default primary injectors to be ECU-controlled

the necessary maps will be adjusted using an emulator that ATP has. basically we sit on the dyno the entire day and play with the maps. when we are done adjusting, we flush the ECU's maps using the values determined from the emulator.

as bullet proof as APR? MTM? not quite. so i may switch to standalone. i'm still learning about ECUs, esp ours. but we were able to find all the necessary maps, at least.

regardless, the 360cc injectors aren't big enough, so eventually i plan on adding a secondary set and using a greddy rebic IV or something... but that is step few-weeks-from-now. gotta get this dam turbo runnin smoothly first

Default sean's got the right idea =)

i didnt actually have the slightest clue i'd be doing any of this a year ago when i got my car. also, there were lots of 180quattro coupes on the market, but very few 225QCs. naturally, i waited til i found a good deal on the 180qc. the few $Gs i saved went straight back into the car.

if i had known i would do all this, i'd probably opt for the 225 because i want the 6-spd and the 9:1 compression ratio and the block girdle too.

Default I bought my car used, 3k miles on it. I got some substantial

savings on the car during a time when dealers around here were still getting a couple thousand above MSRP.
