Default Plans revealed: ATP Stage 4 on a TT (long+pictures)

ATP has a stage 3 and 4 bolt-on kit for golfs, jettas and MKIV GTis that seems to puts out 300+ to the wheels, dependent on tuning. based on my discussions with VWers with this kit or similar setups (such as the infamous 1.BillyT of Vwvortex), a consistent sentiment is that the 1.8Ts are starving for intake air when equipped with a bigger turbo. my discussions with ATP reached similar conclusions.

rather than go with the ballistic T3/T04E-50 trim they use, ATP is putting together a turbo based on Garrett's new T30R system, which i assume will soon become much more well known. it is a dual-ballistic turbo with closely balanced wheels, so as not to risk shaft failure, often encountered with hybrids. the housing will be like an E housing, but overall it wlil be slightly larger than the T3/T04E, but smaller than a T67. non-ballistic T67s spec to spool at 3500rpms. we're going to try and hit that spool threshold, despite the small engine displacement. hopefully the lag won't be too drastic. the main improvement the T30R will have is a 4" diameter compressor inlet, usually seen on the T67. the guys at ATP are going to try and maintain this cross-sectional area up to a panel-mount filter by the driver-side lower grill. feasible? not sure yet. it will require relocating the HID ballast, and probably some grinding. we're going to try and pancake the tube to get it thru. if all fails, we'll have to split the intake pipe, and possibly run one branch to the passenger side grill, maybe via the route taken by the 225 pre-IC piping.

fuel management becomes a consideration in order to feed the added O2 at high-boost. whether to use 470, 520 or 750cc injectors will be determined as the car gets tuned. unless the min/max thresholds the ECU can send arne't sufficient, no external fuel-management system (like RebicIV) will be used.

the FMIC is Sean's old one, the prototype Forge version. downpipe is being fab'ed by ATP, 3" SS, as is the exhaust (twin magnaflows). other than that, the electronic goodies going in include a profec-B, HKS SSQ BOV converted to a DV, greddy turbo timer, apexi EGT and boost gauges, and Schwing's trusty IC misters. clutch is clutchmaster stage III, and lightened flywheel, same as Sean.

cost, you ask? the kit itself is listed on ATP's site, the same as APR's Stg3 kit. if sold as a kit for the TT, it may cost more to do the big intake, which isnt included in the kit. tuning is included, but you'll want to be local if you want the car specifically tuned for the IC/exhaust setup you have. will this all work for sure? no guarantee, but i'm the guinea pig, and i guess we'l soon find out. HP goals are 300~350 to the wheels with less than 22psi of boost. it'l be another week or two before i can post results.

for local guys, i'll be in and out of ATP all next week as the install progresses, if ppl wanna come check it out. wonder if anybody acutlaly read this far =) sorry for the long post!

btw, i've been working this "project" for well over a month. getting the details worked out with ATP, getting parts to come, geting garrett to cooperate, etc. patience is NOT one of my virtues, so lemme tell yah, i'm DYING to get this thing working. hopefully it all comes together. guys at ATP seem confident at least. keep yer fingers crossed!

Default yup. intake/turbo/IC/exhaust, nothing stock, so 180/225 doesnt matter

although the 225s could run more boost, thanks to an block-girdle and lower CR (9 vs 9.5:1 for 180s).

Default Hmmmmm

so...
$3.2k for the kit
$2k for extras (exhaust etc)
$1k-$2k for so for install.
-------
$5-$7k for a potential 350hp at the wheels, hell even crank would be fun for that!

Interesting that this would work sweet for the 180s (ok a 225 could run higher boost) but this puts 180 Quattros (used) in a very good light. OEM MK1 suspension, turn in etc

Default Looks interesting but you are going to run into a major problem . . .

there are no injectors for the TT engine that are larger than the 225 injectors! The 225 has a special flow pattern and neither Bosch nor Siemens manufacturers larger injectors. You can't use a Mustang injector for example like the A4 engine can.

Someone has already done this research, literally around the worl in search of an injector. He was told by I believe Siemens that they would custom manufacture an injector for him, but at a cost of $400/injector.

Something to look into.
