Default Conrero shift knob install (long)

I've been eyeing the Conrero shift knobs for awhile now and well, after doing the shocks/springs I just had to mod something else! I ordered from ABD racing (thanks Dani!) and received the knob today. The packaging is pretty slick, looks to be made for the TT. The knob itself is covered in air leather and has an aluminum ring around the top, yes with dimples, altho not quite spaced the same.

The Conrero knob itself is a bit taller than the stock knob and slightly heavier, not a whole lot tho.

Installation looked pretty straightforward. You place one of the supplied plastic collars onto the shifter, slide the knob over that and finally there are three screws that go into the base of the shifter to hold it in place. There's a metal collar included that you then screw up into place to cover the locking screws.

This was all well and good but it left the shifter standing much taller than stock and the supplied collar did not mate up well with the shifter sleeve. So, I decided to perform a bit of surgery to eliminate the supplied metal collar and hopefully get the knob to sit in place right on the sleeve.
Here's a pic of the shift knob before the surgery... well, you'll probably notice that the surgery is already started but not quite finished yet.

And the after shot:

I only took about a 1/4 inch off but it fits much better now. The knob rests right on the top of the sleeve. There's a bit of a gap which I think I can take care of with a bit more filing of the metal base of the knob.
I only took a few pics of it installed since it had gotten dark out. Will take some more this weekend, hopefully after I hack off a bit more metal and get it seated just right on the sleeve.

After the minor bit of customizing I'm very happy with the look and feel of the new knob. The materials seem excellent and it looks to be a pretty good match for the interior of the car. I'll have to see after a day of driving if it feels any different. I don't think the weight difference is that much tho.
More pics this weekend in daylight once I (hopefully) get it seated better.

Default Hey John..... since it's raining (ON JUNE 28TH!!!), you'll have plenty of garage time to

clean up your install. Looks great BTW.
