I'm planning to do a series of polls on speeding over the next few weeks. At least for this first one, even if you don't speed (riiiiight), you can still participate.
What does it cost you to speed where you live? That is, what is the fine rate for a speeding ticket in your state/province/protectorate/territory/etc. ? I'm asking only about a regular speeding ticket at this point, and not considering insurance surcharges and such. I'm really curious if anyplace is worse than Massachusetts (read as: where can I move to save some money). The fine here is $75 for the first 10mph over, then $10/mile after that, plus $25 "surcharge for the head injury trust fund." So that works out to: Miles over / Fine 1 / $100 5 / $100 10 / $100 25 / $250 40 / $400 Later, we'll get into personal speeding stories, fight it or pay up, insurance surcharges, etc. Last weeks results for bargains: The only item mentioned more than once as a great inexpensive purchase was the California Water Blade.

Virginia is $30 + $3 per mph over. So $33 for 1 mph over, $60 for 10 mph over, $75 for 15 mph over, etc. Pretty cheap by comparison to many States, I think.

Up to $30 processing fee now huh? I couldn't remember what the cost was per mile over.
