Are you so sick as to wish death upon a fellow AWer?

...part of that is trained into me though, because I live in VA and I have to be sure I see them before they're close enough to see my V1.
Regardless, it's all too easy, especially at the speeds you referred to, to accidentally blow by one without realizing it, or without realizing it 'til you've already past it. At triple-digit speeds, you have to keep a far far lookout to identify Crown Vics and Impalas (or whatever the cop car of choice is in your locality) ahead of you so you can shut it down a good distance behind them. It would also help if your friend wasn't concentrating so hard on you as to miss the vehicle moving *much* faster than all the other traffic *behind* him. That's one of the "10 best tips for fearless flying": speed fast enough that any vehicle accelerating to pace you becomes *immediately* obvious. |

I can push your buttons all day, though not for the truck causing your accident. However, how is the truck different than you or your friend, aside from slightly different conditions? How fast does it have to be to go from "letting loose" to being a menace to yourself and others?
If you drive 105 in a 55 and you kill yourself, I'm not going to shed a tear. If you drive 105 in a 55 and kill someone else, you better hope that you die too...because I'm sure the community will feel more like me than you. Don't kid yourself that you know how to drive intelligently, because I guarantee you there's someone else there on that road unprepared for a car coming up on them at twice their speed, and you'll never convince me that you can tell what they are going to do. So, smoochies. Feel free to forward this to the truck that hit you.

And I suppose you can defend the validity of the speed limits on every road in the US in terms of maximum utility and safety (not revenue generation and knee-jerk swallowing of safety-Nazi propoganda fabricated for political gain), as well as demonstrating that traveling at the speed limit is safer than speeding (let me give you a hint, speed differential is more dangerous than speed as a cardinal value, by far)? Speed doesn't cause accidents, idiots do, so I'll stay far from you on the road.
What a prick you are to say that you wouldn't shed a tear based solely on the rate of travel. First, you imply that with your godlike powers you can see that anybody traveling faster than the speed limit is the cause of their own accident and demise and second, that the proper and just punishment for speeding is death. Finally, that you would be so callous to the loss of life REGARDLESS of cause simply show you to be a worthless human being. Have a nice day, I doubt I'd shed a tear for you for any reason. To the admins, I heartily recommend that this user be booted from the board with extreme prejudice, but if he is not, I hope the sane ones of us on the board will simply revel in the chance to lambaste this cretin at every opportunity.

55 mph is actually more dangerous than 105 mph, in relative terms of course. You can die at either speed. It happens that at 55 mph you are lulled into a state of less awareness and feel safe because that's what the government has stated is the legal limit. While at 105 you know there is a definate chance you could be injured is something were to happen, so you are more aware of what is going on around you. Both speeds are dangerous. You had good points with the fact that others may not know what to do if you pass them at 105 and you can never really know whats going to happen. But don't say speeding is dangerous just to say it. 105 shouldn't ever be done on the highway but if you think about it niether should 55.
