My wife's 2001 TT 225hp with 9300 miles got a low oil warning yesterday. It took 1.5qt to bring it back up to the top. My question: Is it normal to burn that much since the 5k service? (We bought it used at 6k miles, so I don't know the previous consumption rate) Wouldn't we notice that much oil being burned? That sounds like a lot to me - even my POS Neon with 75k miles doesn't burn that much.
Thanks |

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I posed this to the site about 2 days ago and got replys from people that had no oil loss to the same amount as myself. I just had an oil change and the dealer said that some of the 225's have this and there is nothing to worry about. I have no leaks and the car is running fine so now I just check it with each fillup.

..the motor is off when the car is parked. Also the under tray will collect some oil so if you start you car and look under the engine, you may not see the drop, drop drop of oil. If you can take that lower cover off you will be able to check this quickly. If not go to your dealer.

added about a pint so far.
Are you using dino or synth? That shouldn't make that much of a difference, but if it went from synth to dino, then some burnoff would be expected.

it doesn't loose a drop between 5K oil changes. Take meticulous notes and follow the consumption. I'd take a peek at the dip-stick every 200 miles.

my oil every 1500 miles..... you might want to check your coolant reservoir to see if any is getting in there...when my oil cooler exploded and I started loosing oil thats where it ended up ....if the coolant seems fine check for any discoloration in the oil from the pan (look at the stick) if you see anything weird have tech guy do a compression test to verify whether you have an internal leak in the motor....if you think that its just leaking from the oil filter or oil pan put a pice of carboard under the car each night and look in the morning to see if anythings leaked out onto it.... also pop the engine cover and see if maybe you have a leak from the valve cover gasket or any surounding area......
