Default As promised, here is some pics of the CDA box installed >>>>>

Here is a close up pic of the connector I got locally at a speed shop to make the 225hp box fit on the 180 motor..

Here is the intake side that goes into the fender....

another overhead shot

Here is the text from my original intall/review

First off, I had a Neuspeed P-Flo as the last *intake* in my car, not the factory airbox so my observations at this point are compared to the P-Flo, not a stock airbox.

I ordered the box a few weeks ago, about the same time that RoberTTo ordered his, the difference being that he has a 225 and I have a 180. Apparently, the 225 kit is more readily available because they keep shipping Ralf all 225 kits instead of some 225 and some 180. The difference is the size of the outlet on the box that connects to the Mass Air Flow because the 225 is bigger than a 180. Ralf was very apologetic that he had not received the 180 kits yet and offered to send me a 225 kit to see if I could make it work since I like doing these sorts of things. If it was unusable, he would take it back.

The kit that I received consisted of:
-1 225 CDA Box with bracket
-1 3' piece of aluminum insulated tubing (to run down in the fender)
-1 Crankcase breather filter
-2 appropriately sized hose clamps for install
-1 metal strap to attach CDA box bracket to the car
-And a nifty BMC sticker =)

Anyway, I immediately came home and started to unceremoniously rip out the old P-Flow and began to install the new box.

I took the drivers side wheel off and the fender liner so that I could gain access to the area where I would be running the tubing down into the fender (If anyone remembers, I currently have a setup that runs from the lower intake grill to the P-Flo) so it was really just going to replace what I already have.

Because the box had a bigger diameter outlet than the MAF sensor, I also had to source a piece of silicone connector that would allow me to join these 2 pieces, I lucked out in that I went a local VW tuner in the area that does alot of turbo and plumbing jobs so they had just what I was looking for, a connector that was a 3.25" on one side to 2.75" on the other...PERFECT!

The box install was a snap, no issues (thxs to the connector) and everything worked out fine. I was not happy with the *quality* of the mounting strap that was included, it seemed kind of cheasy for both the high quality of this carbon fiber box and the quality of the car it was going in =), anyway I just made my own little bracket out of some aluminum I had laying around, polished it on the bench polisher and I was good to go...

I then went to work on running the tubing through the fender and ran into a little problem as well, while the tubing is the correct size that fits on the end of the CDA box inlet, it is too big to make it through the hole without cutting the hole bigger (not happening to my car) I decided to leave my current setup intact and cut the provided 3' aluminum tube into about 6-8 inches long and ran that to the fender area and connected my current set up to this hose. This actually worked out better IMHO opinion because this setup will not allow any suction problems if water get in the hose. Overall, I think the install went well but it is not a kit for an off the shelf install on the TT, this is for someone that is looking for a great looking intake that has mechanical skills to make it work (Sorry Joel =P) I have talked to Ralf and he is interested in the pieces that I made/aquired to make this kit more *bolt on* or he may just sell the box itself for a little less $$$. We'll see =)

**** Also keep in mind, this install was not a direct bolt on since it was for a 225******

Now for my driving impressions (shew!)
-It was late by the time I finsished the whole install and had 1 or 10 to many beers to go out for a drive so I waited until Sat morning to test out. The P-Flo is LOUD! it allows you to hear the turbo spool up very easily and also makes a loud *psshhht* in between shifts. I really happen to like these sounds but I know that some dont so....
anyway, the CDA box is about as queit as the stock airbox, I could barely hear any noises in between shifts nor did I hear the whine of the turbo spooling.... but at this point if it performed, I was keeping it. I drove up to a little expressway near my house and let her rip.. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! !!!!!! Wow, this thing felt great, I was feeling like I just had installed a revised chip or something. I did loose the turbo spooling noise but now I can hear that air being pushed out the tailpipe like a banshee>>>>>woooshhhhhHHHHHH, the little turbo was workin overtime =)

Overall, I love the kit...It looks freakin great, it seemed top perform better in my opinion than the P-Flo (Heat is definitely a factor even with the *heat shield* that the P-Flo has)

The only negative IMHO is that the install is not as easy as the P-Flo, which even Joel could install. This kit makes you be a little creative in order make it look 100%, for mw though...that is the fun of working on cars =)

I also want to make a direct comparison to the factory box vs the CDA to see if there is any difference.

I will post pics as soon as I get my camera back on Fri...Stay Tuned!!!

maybe I will stop by OcTTober's house sooner than that =)

I am a happy camper

Default Excellent write-up!!! Unfortunately, I am as bad as Joel in the mechanical engineering dept. :(

Default Looks good. Do you have pics of the filter itself and the inside of the can? Is that a Mk1 GTi I see

over the fender?

Default I also have a 180TT with an AireTek Intake, had similar experience in regard to.....

performance. More torque/hp on the low end, at least by my seat in the pants testing method. I glad it worked out!
