Default Question re: Hoppen (sp?) chip... Is my leg being pulled, or... ???

Met a gentleman (?), in Portsmouth last night w/ a Lake Silver 225R, and he told me that he had just had a Hoppen chip (say it quickly 5 times), put in and it was good for around 250hp and 260lb-ft of peak torque... Does that sound correct? He said it's his only mod...

I was going to stick-around and chat-him-up some more, but I think he was trying to "get his groove on" with his lady friend, who looked less than amused by our banter, so I took my cue and departed...

BTW - He's not on the forum, as he doesn't "do" the the internet thing, according to his lady-friend... tsk, tsk!!!

Default He's talking about the MTM chip that Hoppen sells. They are the US importer for MTM.

Default Ummmm, I meant do the gains from "chipping" (now a verb) sound realistic???

I thought the full stage III mods only brought the car to around 265hp +/-, so does that mean that the greatest gains are from stage I, and the rest of the mods are just marginal gains???

I'm sooooo confused...

Default Yes, MTM, ABT and almost all chips produce those numbers

Default Got it TThanks!!! One more question...

Any idea what just the chip means, in terms of a performance gain for a coupe???

(assuming a competent driver - heh, heh...)

Default You should be able to regularly achieve sub 6 second 0-60 in the coupe.

Probably around the 5.7 second range. A little higher in the roadster, like in the 5.9 to 6 even second range. I don't know about quarter mile times or top speed, but there's a definite, significant improvement.

Default Numbers aside, the seat-of-the-pants improvement is well worth the investment.

On the cost side, I would (and did) invest in a spare ECU vs. chipping your stock ECU. It'll double your investment in the project but save you countless hassles in the event that your car ever has to go to the shop for something big.

Default What chip offers the toggle back to "stock" mode?....

I've read about this chip and don't they claim that you don't need to get another stock ECU because of this feature. Can this chip be easily detected by the dealer when it's in "stock" mode?
