Default Arrgh! Ceiling fell on car...

I am still in shock. My overloaded, Art Griswald Christmas lights holding ceiling drywall came crashing down yesterday on my baby. Damage is estimated at over $2000 by the adjuster. Have not traveled to a body shop this morning to get the final word on damages. I am glad it was in the garage protected from the elements. My first scratch. Does it get easier after this? The wife says it is just a car, I need stress debriefment.

Default Not sure if this will help, but it could be worse: There was a Miata owner awhile back who had just

stored his Miata for the season, and since it was going to be in his garage, he dramatically reduced his insurance coverage and eliminated comprehensive and collision. A twister hit his area, and the garage collapsed. Ouch.

I know what you must feel like, though. I know the first little scratch is going to make me feel sick inside, although, yes ... it is just a car.

Default Re: won't homeowners insurance cover that?

I got on the phone right away with both. The home owners is State Farm. They said it is covered by the auto policy which is progressive. They had said if it was a visitors or guests car it would be covered.

Progressive was great. Within an hour of the call, I had a check in my hand. They seem to be great. Just have to wait until the final repair is done. I really do not think the check will cover the replacement of the back hatch glass and the body work...

Default Something eerily similar happened to me years ago,

when I still had my Alfa. I had brought it into the dealer for some cosmetic work, nothing was mechanically wrong with the car, mind you, nor was it ever in an accident. I just wanted a loose fender trim piece repaired and repainted, and some work on a scratch on the black plastic bumper.

It was supposed to take two days total, but when I dropped it off on Thursday I was told maybe three days because the part was late coming in. This was in August, 1992, a month that lives in infamy here in Miami because that weekend Hurricane Andrew hit ($20 Billion in damage, largest disaster in US history, etc.). For two weeks after the hurricane I could not get a hold of anyone at the dealer. They said, "Oh, don't worry, we moved all the cars we had inside, and our roof is intact, etc." So, I don't worry. It took another week before I could get over there.

While I'm waiting for someone from the body shop, I spot my car, and walk over to check it out. I almost fainted. My car, which was perfect, and which I had brought in for minor cosmetic work (pardon the dripping irony here), was trashed! I went ape ****. As it turns out, my car was one of several that didn't make it inside because there was no room, so they left it under a giant awning which crashed down on the car during the storm. The whole passenger side roof crease was badly dented, and there were many gouges all over the car down to the sheetmetal. All in all, about $1,000 in bodywork, and of course I got a free new paint job.

So, I can sympathize, my Audi brother, I can sympathize.
