Default Thinks the key is still in the ignition, I guess....(more)

Everybody,

Had anyone else had this problem...which has *just* developed with my 180Q (at roughly 1200 miles):

I park the car, take the key out of the ignition, open the driver's door, and the "chime" rings as if the key has been left in the ignition. Problem is that if it isn't stopped, the alarm system won't "arm" when the door is manually locked!

I've found that often reinserting the ignition key and turning it to "accessory" for a sec, *then* quickly back off, seems to solve the problem. And it's a sporatic problem, too, although it JUST started over the weekend.

Up until now, I had one occasion when my TT locked itself and armed the alarm overnight while parked in my garage (*that* only happened once), and with frequency the master switch doesn't unlock the doors (although pushing it twice and then wiggling the inside driver's door handle will fix the problem).

Does any of this sound familiar to anybody else here? These *alone* aren't serious enough to take the car back into the dealer...I'll just deal with them when I get a voluntary 2500'ish-mile oil change.

Janet

Default Janet, you just wouldn't understand

tis like living with a temperamental woman... which I have for some 35 years. One learns to put up with some of these things, but you, being a woman, just wouldn't understand..... I would be most happy to hear ""chime" rings as if the key has been left in the ignition

I think I am probably in a bunch of trouble..... AGAIN. 8•)

Janet:

I have had and continue to have a similar problem with my 180TTQ.

My problem is all related as proven by myself and also the Service Manager at my Dealer. I have on MANY occasion not been able to turn on ANT inside lights or unlock the doors with the center console button. For some strange reason the five lights at the roof and the center locking button are all tied in electronically.

I brought my car in at about 1 1/2 weeks old for a few minor problems and also this strange electrical problem. I explained that it was intermittant, and I could NOT reproduce it at will. I got the car back and they were NOT able to repeat the problem, not a big surprise. The service tech said to bring the car back when it happens again.

I was on my way back to CT from NY and called the dealer at his exit. I said the lights are not working and to meet me in the parking lot. He came out, I told him NOT to open any doors, but to poke his head in the window. I FINALLY got to prove it to him. He had the Service Manager come outside so I could show it to him. We did all kinds of tests to see what could be causing the problem, or what would trigger the lights and switch to work again.

The ONLY thing that would consistantly make everything work again was opening either door. Turning off the car and restarting it, does NOT always fix the problem.

At this point I am waiting for the Service Manager to get back to me after he finishes doing some research.

Janet, could you possibly go to your dealer so it is on record in the Audi database and my dealer could see it and your dealer could see my problem and maybe they could find the cause together?

Larry

I had exactly the same problem and went to the dealer...of course when I got there the car had "fixed" itself...the service mgr, though, told me it's been a problem with Audi forever and to use a little WD-40 (squirt it on the key and then insert the key) every once in awhile...he said the ignition switch "thinks" the key is still in the ignition.....hasn't happened since then...

Default Interior lights, unlock button

There is a fix for this. A ground wire attached to Pin 2 of [I don't know exactly where] solved this for me. Ask your dealer to research the problem and they will find this solution.

Default Thanks, everybody!....(more)

Thanks, everyone, for your comments! I had NO problems at all all day yesterday or this morning, so obviously this is still a sporatic "glitch". Will be checking with my dealer's service department when I have time to do so.

I REALLY appreciate all the assistance from everybody here on the forum!!
