Default Whoa! The THUMP! revealed

This August issue of Transmission Digest has an article on A8 5HP24, "THE THUMP"

Click the trial button and scroll the pdf document to pages 43 and 44.

The folks at Sonnax are first rate!

The world becomes a smaller friendlier place.

Yes, a quality TC and synthetic ATF

That's the fix according to this article.

Your experience may vary.

Default Very Interesting Article

I would say it's spot on. The graphs are very interesting, you can see the total different control logic in the last one as compared to the first one.....it was operating correctly in the last one.

Default Re: Very Interesting Article

Perhaps our mixed results reports after TC replacement is due to fluid and quality issues.

From the cause analysis point of view, We could expect similar improvement with respect to the "hunt" condition as well.

Regards

Default Clutch lining material seemed to be an important factor

Maybe it wears out and doesn't get replaced....and part of the key was getting a proper clutch lining, "stickiness" of material and thickness or "proper clearances".

Default I'm glad I used Valvoline Maxlife syn when I changed my fluid

Just finished the job this morning. I still smell like transmission fluid.. FWIW, the local Audi dealer (Nalley in Roswell, Ga.) wanted over $250 for the filter and gasket. Thanks to Carson @ Riverside Audi, I got everything for a little over $100.

Default O.K., what's the TCC?

I want to understand, but I'm not transmission savy - oh, and CalG mentioned a TC. Are these the same thing?

Default TCC = Torque Converter Clutch

If you want to see/try and understand how this works, click the FAQ in my sig and look under transmission.
