Tiptronic mods?
Just replaced my dear old '97 A8 4,2 sport with a '02 S8. Had the chance to test the new beast on a track this weekend.
To my big suprise, the S8 Tiptronic behaviour was a downgrade from the A8. I mean, it shifts when in manuel/tip mode! My old A8 never did, it was absolutely locked in one gear when manual mode was selected. No "kickdown" downshifts, no upshift at redline, just hit the rev limiter. Like it should be IMHO.
Are there any possible mods to stop the tranny from shifting when in manual mode? That would probably be my #1 request on the short list of modifications I want for the S8...

I run a 96 4spd and agree that the later tip mode with Auto shift is a downgrade
The 5spd's seem too busy to me although the S8 does have appeal in many other aspects.
The 5spd seem to spend too much time shifting which
makes the drive seem less raw somehow.
The Tip change takes control away from the driver
however a recode will help the issue -read on-search recode and all will become clear

When it comes to 4spd vs. 5spd, I wouldn't have a clue. My '97 had a 5spd tiptronic, as all euro-spec '97s had. I loved the way the '97 tranny worked, since it was factory-coded like the S8, being a "sport" version.
I am aware of the different codings for the tranny, but haven't found a code that will make the facelift S8 stop shifting when in tip mode. Did I miss something?

I know I used the 00011 code to keep first to the redline...
I think. I have a pre-facelift tranny, but I thought the codes are the same. Here's a link to a thread with some codes to try:

Absolutely, the VW-Audi Club had their annual autumn meet there last weekend. Must have been more than 150 cars on the track during the weekend.
