Default Yes Dave

Yes Dave, If all goes well with the A8 Navi, I was thinking of giving it a shot.

Cheers,
Mike

Default Pardon me, but I must ask ..

was the restoration work worth it; ie, less than you would have paid for a similiar example?

Default I think so, but alot of it is about the fun not so much the money.

Jkay, labour of love you know.

As many here can attest, it is quite easy and often fun to blow money on a car (not when it is a surprise though).

I love wrenching on these cars, and it is for enjoyment and not profit. So when I approach a possible project I have tried to price out the initial cost, parts, repairs (mostly my labour), vs. what I may get for it in a couple years.

So with that in mind it is hard to find a worthwhile project because often the initial cost has to be quite low. When I have found a good project car, I have pretty much spent a total of what it was worth, and I have usually broken even on them. (Cheaper the car = more money to go towards repairs).

If I could by a 50K car for 10K. I could spend 37K on repairs to get it to a fabulous condition, then drive it for a year and sell it for 45K.... well that's cheaper then golf any day!

I think I broke even on the S4, but I don't want to sell it. Working on it was a lot more fun then writing a guy a check for a similar car. I hope I can say the same for the A8.

Cheers,
Mike

Default Even more respect!

I can totally dig that...

I probably couldn't do it (even if I had the space), but it sure is cool when you can...

BTW, I think I see a familiar air container under that front wing. :-)

Default Nice ride.

Hello Colby, Nice ride.

I like the 911/933 much more than the 996. In fact I am not a 996 or 986 fan at all. These cars are what you get when you put a production VP in charge of design.

"Ya Ya, ve vill make da frunt sextions da same un but cars, so ve vill only have to manufacture vone front end. It vill be cheaper Ya?"

The new 997 however is all candy! It looks just like it should, old school 911 (not like a boxter).

Is yours a 911 to 993 update? It also looks like a targa-to-cabrio conversion? Sorry, I am not up on my air cooled as should be.

BTW those 3-pce twists suite the car perfectly.

Cheers,
Mike
