Default Follow up of A8 with DTC post

I wanted to report back on my A8 with DTC post of 2/4/04. The car started to show trany shifting probs along with misfire, lean & rich trim DTC's. It whould down & upshift on acceleration causing car to lurch. The tranny went into limp mode & showed DTC 17114 incorrect gear ratio. I told my mechanic to chage the MAF. He did said it didn't solve the problem & put the original back in. I took the car to the dealer. They chaged the MAF and the car is cured. They think the MAF my mechanic had was a defective part. I haven't used VAG on a WOT run to see max airflow yet. I'll check that out over the weekend. The reading was 122 g/s at 6000 RPM with the bad MAF.

Default Incorrect gear ratio?

Glad your car works...but normally when you get the incorrect gear ratio it's a sign of dirty ATF. Have you ever had the ATF changed? How many miles on your car, what year?

I don't understand how a problem with a MAF could cause a limp home mode on the tranny.

Default Re: Incorrect gear ratio?

My car has 75,000 mi. I purchased it used 4 months ago. As far as I know the tranny has not been serviced. The Audi dealer said the MAF issue affected the shifting. Since the MAF has been replaced the tranny shifts flawlessly.

Default Drain, flush, fill the trans fluid, and replace the filter...Your transmission will thank you.
