Default Fixed Door Sensor Issue - A new Way!!! Cheap too!!

It all began with my my keys getting locked inside for the first time and soon I realized the footwell, puddle and the red light on the door were not coming on when I opened the driver door. I STFA and found the below link... Started in that direction assuming I had corrosion inside the locking mechanism I hot wired the sensor wires (Blue to the wire 4 Green with yellow stripe and Red to wire 8 brown) However nothing changed same issues. So it was clear that the sensor itself was faulty... I pry out the sensor from the locking mechanism. (Note the only thing I had done was removed the trim I did not remove the locking mechanism or even try to open it since it is PITA.) Cut the red and blue wire from the sensor and confirm that the sensor is bad!! I open the sensor itself and tons of corrosion... and everything breaks apart trying to clean it... I tested with the open wires and found that everything is working properly and the sensor is the final culprit. Not sure if I could find a similar sensor I decided to mod it... So went to Radioshack and purchased
SPDT Momentary Switch part number 2751549 $3.99
went to Advanced Auto and purchased
5/16 inch CAP Vacuum 4 PK part number 47394 $1.98

Drilled a 1/4 inch hole for the switch in the bottom most corner in the drivers door towards the middle of the car of course making sure I could mount a switch from inside the door. Soldered the sensor wires to terminals 1 & 2 on the switch mounted the switch and put the vacuum cap on the switch head and the only adjustment I had to do was to cut a 0.5 cm along the bottom circumference of the vacuum cap and now it works great with no issue is very inconspicuous since the switch is all black with the cap also black on my black car...
Lets see how long it works... but I was in no mood to spend $250 on a brand new locking mechanism for just this stupid sensor... It cost me all of $6 and about 3 hours of labor since I had to figure out what will work... Hope this helps someone.. !!

I just put in a picture of the switch covered with the vacuum cap.. Do note the location.. I looked everywhere around the door and then settled for this position..

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/410753.phtml</a

If I cut the blue and red wires, will this simulate an open or clashed switch?

My passenger rear door is intermittently showing open on my display and causing the dome light to go on. I am hoping to cut the wires and defeat the switcher. Thus always having the door closed and never having the dome light go on.

Thanks

I bet it would work with a magnetic switch as well.

SPDT is normally closed....so if you cut the wires the system will think the door is always closed.

SPDT is normally closed if you choose it to be depending on the switch action or type. The double throw switch has Common, NO & NC leads
AKA the change-over switch.

Morning everyone! So I have a '99 A6 Avant. Have the 3 doors open and dome lights on all the time issue. Did a ton of research here and elsewhere and this is what I've done so far:

1. Checked visors for pinched wires.

2. Unplugged black plugs under front seats.

3. Removed all 4 door latches and cleaned the microswitches (all were in really good shape...).

None of this has helped. I am not blowing #14 fuse. Sunroof opens fine.

The drivers door is the only door that is actually working correctly. That and the rear cargo door.

I have no problem cutting out the switches completely if that will fix the issue. I am just tired of not having dome lights on at night (I have them switched off all the time), and the display is just a constant reminder that I am not in my 911 anymore...

Thanks for any other advice. Really appreciate it!

Edit: Also hit the thing with my vagcom today. Only had the 18010 code for low voltage. None of the door lights (red lights on end of doors) come on either...

Well, I "fixed" the issue...

I removed ALL the bulbs in the 4 doors (the little ones in the side and bottom of door panels), the 2 under the seats, and the 2 by the glove box. ALL the "door open" warning lights when away!

Now, I know there is a bigger issue, but I can live without those lights if it means I can have my dome lights go on and off when they are supposed too...

Best,
Bill
