Default Oil smell....

This is an '01 2.7t.

A couple of weeks ago noticed an oil smell as I walked past the car after shutting down.

No oil on the driveway.

I had my guys check it out yesterday during a routine service. They indicated the culpret are the cam tensioner flange seals. $550 P & L to repair.

Motor has 97,000 on it. Should I have this repaired when I go in for the timing belt at 105,000? Can I save some bucks by combining the work?

Any other issues?

thanks

Default IMHO, cam adjuster seals should be routinely changed with the timing belt.

BTW, congrats on having the balls to go all the way to 105k. Most folks do the belt at 90k. Good luck!

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'll have my shop re-quote the work and have it all done at the same time as timing belt/water pump...

Default BLAUPARTS.COM actually has a TB kit that included cam tensioner seals

Default Actually there's no overlap between tensioner seal job and timing belt job. Also

at 2 hours per side plus a couple of bucks for tensioner gaskets, $300 is fair for this job.

Or DIY.
