Default Nasty Smell

It seems that when I really get on the turbo, my engine smells pretty bad. I only noticed it because I had the sun roof open. It was a really hot burning smell almost like a rubber burning. I have only noticed it one other time when I first got the car. I was showing it off and I was really ragging the car out with lots of stops and high rpm's. When I got out of the car I noticed that it stunk really bad. I thought it must be the brakes or something but wasnt entirely sure. Anyone have any ideas on how to track this down and or what it might be?

Default How new is your car

Hi, I think I had the same problem as yours. The dealer said that on all new cars, they apply some type of coating under the car and it's supposed to burn off the first few months. Well needless to say mine didn't and sometimes I would see a whole plume of smoke rise from under the car. Had me worried at first so I took it in. Dealer added some dye to the oil just to make sure for when I come back in a few weeks to play it safe. I'll let you know if anything comes up.

Default A little bit of oil burning off? That would happen when my cam seals were leaking...

Default being you are new here...

If you drive a stick..its probably the clutch.
It smeels just like burning brakes.

If its a rotten egg smell then change you fuel to a better grade/brand.

Default Rotten egg could be the cats too. Oil smell could be a gasket.

Default Tip

I have a tip and not manual so that rules out the clutch. Never thought anyone would ask for the kind of smell, as though there were many to choose from, so I will have to check on that next time I get some open road.

Its an 03 so I would think that any coating might have burned off way before now.
