Default '00 2.7 Brake Warpage - Is there a consensus on fixing this?

I've always done the burn off procedure, but the time with good braking performance between burn offs has gotten shorter and shorter.

The wobble is now really, really bad. Something has to be done about it.

I've read stoney's links on the subject, but there is a lot of divergent information over a fairly long period of time.

Is there a consensus on how to resolve this issue once and for all? I don't need track brakes, just something adequate for my GF, who does a lot of in town driving.

Default I found this article informative

I used their technique of using some very abrasive track pads (Hawk Blues) to solve a "warp" issue with mine.

Default Look at the Stoptech article below. I have the same thing happening to me, but just re-bed them in

to get it better. It is never 100%, but I just have not have the time to put those pads on. I have done it a few times and it got MUCH better though.

Default 2nd, I follow the procedure mentioned below about twice per year. .. and here's a hint

print the article out and bring it with you in the car when you do this... not that you'd ever get pulled over for doing this, but it might take a long time to convince a cop you aren't on anything,,, the printed article might help. You might get lucky and end up with a written warning for display of power, instead of the original reckless driving charge... if you ever got pulled over. not that you would.

Default Like I said. I've done this many times, but it is becoming less effective.

It's time for a real solution.

Default Mine were rough, but VIR did them it. I just machined a few thousandths off and all is good!

Turns out they weren't warped, but had major pad material deposits.

Default If you have tried to re-bed the pads and it is hopeless, then new rotors...

are probably in order. As far as brand etc., the OEM tend to warp badly, so I would suggest you try Brembo or Zimmerman OE replacements. Also, you might want to ermind the driver (you or your GF) not to heat up the rotors and then stop for any amount of time. Try to drive lightly the last few miles of your journey to help the oil cool down a bit for the turbos, and to help the brake rotors recover from intense braking. If that does not match the driving style, then learn to live with the wobble, and look out for the Turbo-Lady!

Default My Zimmermans have been far better than the factory,...so far. $65 each from Carquest

locally. Not slotted or drilled, just plain rotors for the street.

Had the Carquest store just lightly rough up the old OE rotors to take off the high spots, and warped them within 2 run groups using Hawk HP+ pads. Not material buildup, truly warped. Checked with a dial indicator and .015' out. Not enough material left to cut again. Time for a dedicated track car.
