Default Concorso 2005 (lots of pics = bww)

This year we decided to show our Alfa 164 at the Monterey Concorso, since Pininfarina was a featured marque and the 164 was designed by this famous coachbuilder. We hasn't attended the Concorso last year since traffic and parking was so terrible the first time it was held at the new location at Blackhorse Golf course. I am glad to say it was fairly painless this year. We did drop off the Alfa on Thursday afternoon, and then parked the A3 in a reserved spot on the day of the show. The really rare and expensive cars were scarce - again, a result of traffic problems in the past where old cranky cars would overheat in creeping traffic. Attendance was down a bit too - no doubt due to the reputation of the parking woes in the past. That actually made the show better, as it gave it a feel more like a large Italian car GTG, and not so much a formal show. Owners chatted with others, old friendships renewed, new friends made, and plenty of people relaxing on the grass under the trees.

What is heartening to see is the much enlarged contingent of non-Ferrari cars. More Alfas, Maseratis, Fiats, etc.

Of course saying there were fewer Ferraris is only relative;-)

The Dino owners may not get much respect from the rest of the Ferrari crowd, but they sure do know how to party! Music was pumping and the giant bottle on wine on the rear deck of the Dino was seriously depleted.

"Chinese eye" Ferrari and several other classics.

The V8 contingent.

Plenty of humble and special Alfas showed up.

One of these:

Can become one of these:

More giant killer potential here:

Lamboghinis were in full force. There was a nice collection of Miuras and Espadas.

Not for the shy.

The Gallardo Concept S.

I didn't take pictures of the modern Maseratis, but there were quite a number of new Coupes and Quattroportes on the green.

Pantera owners always make a strong showing. Maybe they hope a little of the credibility of some other brands will lend them an upscale image? ;-P

Lovely classic Lancia that was an incredible ground breaking design. There was a good turnout of all kinds of Lancias. Scorpions, Betas, Fulvias, etc.

I think this Citroen DS21 managed to sneak in under the wing of a nearby SM (which is powered by a Maserati V8 with 2 cylinders lopped off)

Vintage Ducati.

Odd duck combo. Italian bodies Aston next to Ghia.

The Cadillac Allante group, emulating the Pantera club.

Audi A6 S-Line in red. There were plenty of A6 Avants in the area, stickered as VIP vehicles.

Riva brought some gorgeous boats for us to drool on.

In the German car parking corral, we found these Touring 2002s.
