Default OEM HID install---UPDATED

Well...I had an interesting ride home last night, because..well...it seems I had the projectors upside down! The light was UP! So I manually cranked the levels down so its wasn't so obvious.

So....I ripped the lights apart tonight. Here's how:

After baking at 350 for 5 minutes or so... Pulled everything apart.

Twist this knob

The knob has a post and ball at the end. Pull it all the way towards the center of the light and out.

On the front there are 2 white clips that hold the chrome reflectors in. Push the tabs up with a flathead and pull out.
left side
right side

Remove the 3 nuts (7mm) from around the projector. I used a pair of needlenose to loosen and then with a socket. The projector rests on 3 posts. I removed them with the needlenose.

There is no easy way to mount the projector without destroying either the projector or the shroud...so I chose some galvanized wire to strap the projector to the shroud. (flame away)

Only 1 tab on the projector was even close to a mounting point, so I bent & molded it to get a solid mounting point.

Heres the #8 x1/2" screw that holds the tab in place

And the wiring holding the top

Put eveything back together in the order removed.

I used some wire to mount the ballast to the bottom of the headlight

And some silicone to seal the 9006 connector from the ballast into the housing.

I'm going outside right now to put the headlights back in place. Phew....=)

Default I know that now =)

The Halogen projector is opposite, and looking at the post points compared to the projector, they were close, thats why I figured it was right. NOPE!! Upside down! DOH!

Default Eh, live and learn. At least you have a good attitude about it, and took the time to document it.

Default There is a space where the ballast is supposed to go...

The 1 wire holds it nice and snug. I didnt want it bouncing around...and I didnt think duct tape was appropriate =) lol

Default cool. Some questions...

1) do the OEM HID projectors line up with the 3 mounting holes from the halogen reflectors? It appears that they are not...which was my original prognosis from 2 years ago.

2) Could you have borrowed some of the mount points from the halogen reflector/part to make it a better fit?

Keep us posted on the long-term viability of this project.

Very creative. Luckily, all of that "chicken wire" can be hidden inside the housing. Ha! Just kidding.
