Default Why pull it, when you can just bypass it...

With the help of a couple of Awer's, "WildBlueYonder" & "Peccavis" I have just installed the "servotronic-relay-bypass-while-in-tiptronic" modification.

I know that there has been a lot of threads about pulling servos and wiring switches posted here already, so I won't go into the "why's". I always definitely liked the idea of better steering feel, but didn't want to pulled the servo, due to my wife's comments about how much she loved the steering in the A6. Hence, my dilemma.

When I read the link about the "servotronic-relay-bypass-while-in-tiptronic" some time ago, and thought, maybe someday I'd have enough "balls" to hack into the wiring harness. Well, it happened on Wednesday.

I contacted "WildBlueYonder" the author of the original link and found him to be most accommodating and informative. He answered all of my questions and then offered to assemble the required wiring harness for me.

With help of a local AWer, "Peccavis", we were able to simply follow the link's, very detailed directions without any problems. The pics were clear and info was exact. (accept my MY 2000 seemed to have 8mm bolts instead of the 10mm stated in the link.)

First Driving thoughts: Awesome. I can now use the tiptronic mode on those backwoods, winding and twisting roads near my house and get some excellent steering feedback. All the while not sacrificing any extra boost sometimes required for parallel parking and more importantly, the steering feel that my wife loves.

Advice: If you want the best of both worlds, even if you've already pulled your servo, put it back in and get this mod. A very simple install and invisible to the uniformed (my wife, who never uses the tip mode). You won't regret it.

A special thanks to Bill "WildBlueYonder" & Bert "Peccavis" for all their help and patience with this mod.

Default Could part IV be used just to install an in-line switch?

I don't have the nerve to do the whole thing, but I could put in a simple in-line switch.

Default Lemme splain...

This is an easy mod:
I had the harness for 6 weeks before I attempted it. I don't know why I was nervous.

1 wire tapped to tip harness (1 wire tap and pliers)
2 wires tapped to servo harness (2 wire taps and pliers)
1 wire to power strip under dash (10mm socket)
1 wire to ground strip under dash (10mm socket)

That's it...It took longer to dis-assemble dash.

I (or peccavis; w/o even asking him) will help anyone locally who wants to do this. Probably 30-35 minutes...Done!

Don't be afraid...Come over to the Dark-side (then switch back w/a flick of the stick)
