Default 79k/mi on 99 2.8 - tranny service, diff service, water pump, timing belt

Performed at 78k
Transmission Service - Clean pan and magnets, replace gasket, replace filter, drain and replace fluid = $285
Rear Differential Service - Drain and replace fluid = $165
Performed around 70k
Water Pump and Timing Belt = sorry don't have/remember prices

Dealer says CV boot are cracked and will cost about $500 to replace both.
Probably due for spark plug change, new fuel filter, and maybe new ignition parts
Probably have to do the other differentials, just not sure how many more there are? Center and Front Torsens? If anyone knows or has performed this kind of service (or knows if it even needs to be done) please share.

They also performed JC recall to fix window guides, install front bumper guides, and perform some other small work on the side door mouldings and ashtray (didn't see or notice anything different)

Default I think he was referring to the fact that it was done 45k miles sooner than scheduled.

(regardless of what the forum says).

Personally, I'm going to do it per the schedule. If it breaks prior to that, extended warranty can pick it up.

Default ouch. that sucks. I guess the old adage holds true: don't own one out of warranty.

Default Hoehn Audi, Carlsbad, CA (LONG)

Called about 10 different dealerships in Southern California, (I live in Carmel Valley/Del Mar, CA. but frequent Orange and LA county so I didn't mind driving around); 18 locations popped up within 100 miles of my zip

Power Audi in Newport Beach actually quoted the lowest trans. price ($285) but higher rear diff. service price ($260), Hoehn Audi in Carlsbad gave me an initial estimate of $325 for trans. and $165 for rear diff. service. I set two separate appts (one for each dealership with the lowest price), but when I walked in for the rear diff. service at Hoehn, I told the service rep. that some guy quoted me $400 for everything over the phone. They asked if I knew his name, and I said no. (because I was making this up) He wrote $400 down on the log, and called me back saying "Uhm, it came out to be a little more because we forgot to account for a few extra qts of fluid. It's $430 without tax." Altogether it was $450 and that included a loaner car for two full days. They also reset the service light for an oil change I did myself, lubricated the door hinges/sunroof and performed the JC recall. (They also apparently inspected the CV boots and called me to ask if I wanted to pay an addl. $500 to replace them) In reality it is hard to determine the actual price of each service, because the $10 loaner fee was shoved in there somewhere (but I don't know where, as there's no seperate billing for it) and the breakdown of the service looks like one line for fluids, and one line for parts/labor. I have a picture of the service records I will post later.

Other interesting information-

McKenna Audi in Norwalk wanted $795 just for the transmission service
Beverly Hills Audi in LA wanted $575 for the transmission service
Commonwealth Audi in Santa Ana said both services don't need to be done per Audi recommendations (since they're all "lifetime") but said he could do trans. for about $375
Miramar Audi in San Diego (closest to me) said Audi does not recommend this service and they will not perform it under any circumstances.
Could not get an estimate from Circle Audi in Long Beach because they were "too busy." And this they told me after about 10min waiting on the phone (called back twice). I actually got a "Sir?! Oh you're still there? Yah, we're pretty busy here, theres only two of us. We will call you back."

I'm curious as to what other Audiworld members are paying, for their service at other dealerships across the nation.

Default What it cost me so far...

I had the timing belt, water pump, thermostat and tranny serviced (redline synthetic fluid). Also the acc. belt and tensioners done for almost $1700 at Griffen in Berkeley.

The had the Aux. fan and clutch replaced for another $250.

Just purchased new front rotors and Hawk pads from ECS, not installed yet. Cost: $230.
