Lots of good news, a little not-so-good.
Good: Local tire guys vouched for straightness of my repaired S6 Avus rim. Good: S6 Avus (17"x8") with ContiExtremeContact in 235/45-17 fits beautifully in spare well: ![]() Not so good: the plastic-headed wheel retaining bolt doesn't fit. a) The threaded bolt is a bit too short to reach the well socket. b) Even if it reached, the whole assemblage sticks up so much the trunk "floor" won't close. Thus my question: do A6s with different wheel combos from the factory get a different retaining bolt? My car came with the non-sport 2.7T 5-spoke 16" (16x7) wheels, and a 4B0-803-899-AG bolt which looks like: ![]() Could folks with other wheel combos check and see if they have the same 4B0-803-899-AG part? TIA!

By "the same" do you mean same approximate measurements/proportions?
Thanks! I'm guessing there's no "right" animal, since Audi obviously never put S6 Avus wheels in a trunk wheel well (at least in the US) I keep hoping though....

Same meaning similar shape & size. The threaded part is about 3 inches long.

On a 2000 4.2 with 8 x 17's (both pieplates and 5 spoke) with 35 mm offset and 255/40 tires, mine is also 4B0803899. There is NO letter suffix. Different than the picture, on the knurled side you would grab onto, that's the very end of it--I see one more piece/spacer in your picture. Likewise on the threaded end, mine doesn't have the eight pointed star wheel thing--basically your picture has four principal black plastic parts plus the threaded bolt. Mine has only two plus the bolt.
Different approach--you can disassemble these and change the bolt built into it to the right length. Less than $2 at a hardware or auto store that stocks metric bolts. I've replaced it on a C4 2.8 when I changed wheels.

And I can fit the 17" S4 Avus in, no problem...
From a '00 2.7t w/sport split spoke wheels (originally). The whole thing snaps apart, and you might be able to get a longer bolt somewhere - it's just a hex-head bolt inside the plastic!

On mine, there are two small tabs which are un the underside of the knob - in yours they would be under the black plastic "cheese wheel"...
I'll try to get the p/n on mine...
