Well, here are a few pics on my two latest mods. My bro-in-law installed the sway bars a couple of weeks ago. But I never took pics of them. Now, w/ the 8300K HIDs installed, my car is once again showing off something new on it. And to think, the stealership wanted $2K for their xenon lights (not incl. install). I spent about $500 (parts/labor) on these HIDs I saw on eBay (MeccaTune brand). He did tell me that it wasn't easy to install though. He and his friend had to drill holes in the back of the light housing + they had to splice the wiring, too. So, it took much longer than expected. As for the sway bars, he informed me that it was pretty straight forward install.
![]() ![]() (Please excuse these pics. I couldn't figure out how to turn the flash off on the camera. Doh!) ![]() ![]() ![]() Off-topic: I watched them do an engine swap on a WRX. They took out the stock engine (that someone blew out while racing) and replaced it w/ an STi engine. I didn't watch them finish the job (I waited long enough at their shop), but that's what...a 75 hp increase? I can only imagine how much the Subaru owner spent on that STi engine.

That's why I prefer 4200K HID because it has more light output. See pictures below for comparison.

IIRC, the lower the color temp. K (Kelvin) rating, the more it turns yellow/white. As the K rating increases, it changes to blue/purple.
Example: 3200K = yellow-white. 5600K = brilliant white (similar to the sun). 8300K (mine, blue-white light). 12000K = purple-white (although I've seen these lights on the net in the 7000K range, too). I guess after looking at the color of the bulbs, I chose 8300K because I preferred the blue-white look.

after installation. In the short amount of time that I've had them, I'm impressed w/ the fact that there's practically no body lean in turns, even when I accelerate hard through a sharp turn. In all the cars I've owned, I've lowered them all, but this is the first time I added sway bars. And if I knew it would make this much of a difference, I would've bought it a long time ago.
Like someone else here mentioned, dollar for dollar, it's one of the best (and inexpensive) mods you could do for your car.

at color temp = 4200K, luminous flux (light output) = 3400 lm +/- 250 lm
at color temp = 5800K, luminous flux (light output) = 2400 lm +/- 450 lm. Light output does indeed decrease. You're right though, as you increase the color temp, the more the light tends to move away from pure white and towards blue/purple.

In my opinion, and this is strictly aesthetically speaking, the OEM HIDS on the A6 never looked as good as HID's on other OEM applications. When I first saw the xenon's on this car they looked drab yellow, I even questioned as to if they were really HID.
On my previous car (Acura CL) they were brilliant at night, then I also noticed even the A4 seemed to have a whiter/bluish cast than ours. So, I made the swap full aware that I was sacrificing some light for looks, and if I lived in some desolate area and traveled back highways maybe I would stay with 4200k, but luckily this is not the case And 5500k is just right for me!
