Default Confirmed. Had my 98.5 2.8 in for oil change yesterday and the breather pump was completely clogged.

Part is $30 and, with an oil and filter change, it was $88. The dealer said they checked it without removal by pressurizing one side to see if it holds pressure.

I had the seals redone just 1000 miles ago so it is nice to catch this in the hope of alleviating another engine resealing in the near future. The A4 has had the cam adjuster seals and cam cover seals replaced at 32k miles (under warranty) and at 71k miles ($900 out of my pocket). I may schedule replacement of the breather pump every 2 years since it's so inexpensive.

Default I think I've tracked it down

I printed out the diagram from ETKA and removed the top beauty cover from the engine.

I'm a bit befuddled by that clamp. How do you remove that thing? And I'm assuming that the bracket and sensors above the pump need to be removed to gain access to the clamp below. I'd love to just do this myself since it's somewhat accessible. There's nothing in here, right? Is it just air from the intake?

Default Nicely done, sir! And that's a one-time-use clamp.

Just tear it off. Make sure you have another one, or a functional replacement. An appropriately sized stainless steel hose clamp would work just fine.

CV joint boots use the same sort of clamp. Takes a special tool to install. I borrowed one from EdP when I did a CV joint boot a couple months back, but it can't be more than a $20 or $25 item for a nice set of crimping pliers.

Default and that's why 2.7t owners have to remove the big metal Y-pipe

Click the link for the replacement that I just performed today.

The ETKA? Uhhhh, I don't have one. And if I DID have one, I wouldn't be able to tell you. ;-)

Default Valve stem seals

I have a 2.8q.Decellaretaion while in gear causes the car to smoke. The car has just over 100k miles on.
1)Could it be possible that more than the valve stem seals, (guides or valves) could be worn (at this milage)?

2)In South Africa Audi sells the seals at R60, each ($8.5) while I can get el-rings (036 109 675)at about R4 ($0.60).Any comments on quality etc?

3)Anything other than valve stems I should check out first.

Thanks
