Replacement rearview autodimming mirror - 3rd party OEM fix for less than $100
My 2nd rearview mirror stopped working a few weeks back so I started searching for other alternatives. I've been keeping an eye on genuineaudiparts.com, etc but direct OEM replacements cost over $200. I almost gave into a compass mirror however the archives indicate that those are also susceptible to failure.
A google search of "donnelly" or "magna donnelly" + "leak" lead to posts on other forums including Acura MDX's and BMW M5's failures. Apparently at one point Magna donnelly was replacing mirrors for free due to the caustic effects of the chemicals that leaked from the mirrors. I contacted Magna Donnelly directly and inquired about a free replacement however they informed me that they are no longer able to honor these because of the age of the vehicle.
However, after further investigation I was able to find a 3rd party vendor who offers a direct refurbished OEM mirror for $75 (plus S&H) and return of your old core. They include a FedEx return postage sticker for the core.
My refurbished OEM replacement arrived today which was plug and play.

The name of the 3rd party company that replaces the mirrors is called: Sybesma's Electronics

Send an email to: orders@sybesmas.com and they will send a form for you to fill out.
FYI, I contacted them Thursday and received the mirror Tuesday.
And yes, I inquired about a groupbuy however this was not possible.

http://www.sybesmas.com/home.html
