Default Did the Sportec airbox mod this weekend a la Jackson and a few others. It turned out well:

I outlined the area I wanted to cut out with a ruler and a Sharpie, and then I used a Dremel to freehand cut out the hole.

**I highly recommend a reinforced cutting wheel for this mod, as I shattered two non-reinforced cutting wheels. Let's just say I was lucky to be wearing eye protection.**

I then used a combination of some 100 grit sandpaper and a 120 grit flapper wheel for the Dremel to smooth out the edges in and out.

To finish the job, I used JB epoxy and some fiberglass screening left over from a window screen repair. As you can see, it turned out really well. I hope that it gives me an extra edge when all is said and done.

In conclusion, I think that this mod is easy enough that everyone should do it (or something like it). According to testing done by others, this mod seems to increase the airflow quite considerably, even with a stock filter.

Good night all!

Default Any theories as to why? If this is the case, I'm going to fabricate a filler plate and some simple

retainers that I can easily put into place during the summer if my car reacts the same way.

Thanks for the heads up!

Default basically, the bugger sucks air. so when its hot, it sucks lots o hot air. you could feel the diffe

rence, and i even logged it. it ran worse. but when its cold... ooof, opposite effect... the bloody thing booted!

did you keep the part you cut out? you could just use that. even if it doesnt cover the whole entire thing, as long as you keep lots of hot air from coming in, you should be ok.

also, if it doesnt cover the whole thing, it should flow a lil more air too.

Default That piece was all mangled and I used it to mix the epoxy on...doh! So I'm going to see how the car

runs and then come up with a solution if necessary.

I appreciate the info!
