Default S4/ A4 Fog light installation, Canadian model

Do anyone know if the canadian 2000 S4 have some harness already installed for the fog lights that come standard with the american model? I have change the bumper already, and there was the two plugs ready to connect to the lights. I bought the OEM switch at the dealer and I can't find a connector in the side console.... Also, I would appreciate if anyone have a scan of the electrical schematic!

Thank you!

The Canadian model only has the wiring from the connector panel located to the left of the clutch pedal to the fog light plugs at the bumper. You will need the fog light relay, which goes in the empty space on the relay panel above the brake pedal, wiring for the intermittent switch that you have, wiring to and from the lighting control module that's located behind/above the glove box and you will have to modify the lighting control module or buy a US or Euro version. The Canadian version is set up for DRL's and no fog lights, and is different than the US version. I found this out when I installed the fog light switch to activate my electric fan. Search the archives for posts on modifying this module for independent operation of the fog lights. It explains what the pins in the lighting control module do (the US version). I have a Bentley manual, but the wiring diagram is useless. IMHO you might be better off installing a separate switch and relay for the fog lights and just use the wiring that's there.

Ok, I got the whole picture now! I will stop searching for that harness... I had installed a relay circuit under the hood already just in case, I only need to get the + wire of the relay thrue the firewall and get it to a NC contact of the OEM switch I bought.

I would like to know the pin out of the switch still, since I want to illuminate it and get the "on" amber LED to come on when the fog lights are. (I might just order that little harness and just splice some wires in)

Anyone could write that down?

Thanks!

Well, I called my "friendly" dealer and he says that they don't sell that little harness, but only the whole complete wire harness for over 2000$. So, I will have to come up with some sockets to that switch, I still need the pin reference if someone have the Bentley handy!

Thanks!

Default You don't need the whole harness...

If you just want to use the switch, you need to buy a 4B0971636, which is the connector at the back of the switch - it has no wiring, so you have to buy wiring from the dealer that has the correct sized female pins and build the connector. I didn't write down all the pin outs for the switch, but they are the same as the rear fog switch, so pull it out and look. Brown=ground, pin 3; white/red=led power pin ?; gray/blue=illumination, pin 1; gray/green=ignition, pin 4; white=12V pulse signal, pin ?. I suggest that you test them to make sure. Remember that the signal is a momentary pulse that may not be enough to trigger your relay - that's what the light control module does. You should test your relay with the switch if you want to do it without using the light control module.

You seem to know what you are talking about!I wish I had known all that info long time ago! If the switch only send only a momentary pulse, that won't make my relay stay "on" since it is not a latching relay. It seem like I can only use the light control module as a way to control those lights if I want to use that OEM switch.... SO, you think that I can modify that light control module to work out or I need to get an american model absolutely? What about that extra relay, is this a common automotive relay or I have to order it thru Audi as well? I am an avionic technician studying engineering, I can wire whatever, but without the schematics, it make it damn harder! Anyway, thanks RJV, so far you are very good help!

I think it is possible to make the Canadian light control module function for this. From what I was able to find out when I set this up to trigger my EFK relay, the only issue may be that the front fog lights will turn on when you turn on the rear fog light. This shouldn't be a problem. The pin outs on the Canadian light control module are different than in the Bentley manual. The module is set up to turn off the fog lights when the hi beams are on, so there are a lot of pins. I have a 01.5 S4, but I'm assuming yours is the same. From my testing, pin 5 or 7 is probably the switched 12V relay signal that should control the fog lights. There will not be a wire attached to these positions at the connector. Pin 1 should be where the momentary switch signal attaches to the controller. Pin 10 might be the led indicator signal for the switch. Get a volt meter to confirm. You're also going to need a battery charger - you'll run down your battery while testing all this. You don't need the Audi relay. Your relay might even fit in the relay panel. You are also going to need 2 connectors and wiring for both the light controller and for the 2 connectors that go into the panel with the existing fog light wiring - the one by the clutch pedal. You'll have to check for the right wire color. There are only a few positions that are not used that have wiring attached. I found them fairly easily - just unwrap some of the tape over the harness and find the fog light wiring. There are no other wires with that color combination. Good luck with this. It is a serious PITA.

Default In progress...

Allright, I begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but not coming from my own fogs lamps yet that is for sure! I ordered the connector and sockets for my switch this morning from the VW dealer, since you gave me the right p/n, they could see it in their system. This weekend I will open the r/h side and connect the switch to that box and if I get 12v out, I'm in business! If so, I only have to run wires from that box to a relay and find the wires thas goes in the front and that's it. (I think they will be "white/green" up to the bumper according to half a schematic I founded here).
I will have a better view this weekend since I have not seen that light controller yet...
Thank again!

Default Where are the fog light wires????

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/128506/relaysaudis4.jpg"></center><p>
I have been looking for the green/white wire coming from the front for hours, I really can't find it.... I don't even know where is the location of the rear fog relay, I don't hear it click neither the fog light in the back turn off when I pull any of the relays. Could someone help me out with this, here is the picture of the relay area, maybe someone could download it and circle the area where this stuff should be using microsoft paint or something?????
