Default Questions for guys with IC misters...

Was it a worthwhile mod or do you wish you hadnt done it at all? And what changes would you make to your current system if you had to do it over? I see that guys have used the stock headlight washers as the pumps and wonder if any have failed yet.

It sounds like water injection would be of a performance improvement but the programming and fine tuning seems difficult.

Default I use the Autospeed/Avalon Intelligent IC Mister kit...(edited)

There was enough support and documentation between Flyboy, FunkWeasel and Don P that I did them without logging before and after..

Do I wish I didn't do them? No. I never used the headlight washers and they system is real trick..so if nothing else they are worth while just for fun factor...

My pump has never failed.

Nochanges to my system except possibly stream lining the spray nozzles.

This system works using it's own ECU (I have mounted in the glove box). It monitors injector duty cycle, ambient temp and the temp after the inter-coolers.

You set the temp delta (difference between ambient, infront of the IC and IC temp, at the rear of the same IC) at the point at which you want the system "armed" and you set the throttle position the same way (actually the duty cycle of the injectors which Autospeed calls Fang). I have the Duty Cycle set to about three quarter throttle and the temp delta at about 25 degrees.

If both of these user set thresholds are exceeded the ecu will power the misters for as long as it determines is appropriate. It seems to be a learning system since I have seen it spray for much longer periods when I have jumped on the throttle then when I have eased it on.

I was interested in monitoring the system for fine tuning so I fabricated a series of LED's which I incorporated into my V1 display so I could see it easily...

The four red LED's are status indicators..one each for Power, IC Temp sensor, Ambient Temp sensor and Inj Duty Cycle. If the Temp delta is exceeded the first yellow lights up. If the Duty Cycle pre-set is exceeded the second yellow is illuminated...if both are tripped and the pump is turned on the green illuminates.

The ECU is mounted in the glove box (Temp delta is exceeded here and the indicator is illuminated Red). The power and Serial plugs have been modified to accomodate the LED's and a manual overide located inside the shift boot)

The Ambient Temp sensor and the drivers side mister..

Default That's slick with the LED's...I've got mine installed, but will be taking it out and selling it.

I NEVER used it so it's all brand new still. It's in, but not hooked up electrically. Don't know why I never got around to it. Too lazy I guess.

Default Automatic misters would have been great on my car before it was fast------------->

When I had stock intercoolers and APR V5.0 I had to stay in the boost longer. The K03s made plenty of heat for my stock ICs and the bad timing I got from the APR V5.0 weaksauce guaranteed that I would be in the boost for a long time to get the car moving. This leaves the perfect opportunity for IC misters to eat up some heat.
Now that I have a healthy stage III car everything seems to be over with before the IC misters seem to have a chance to do their business.
I have since disconnected my Autospeed intelligent box. Now the only time I really need IC mist is from idle heat soak and the intelligent box isn't designed to fight that. I'm going to install a momentary contact switch to soak my intercoolers before lights turn green, when leaving drive thru windows and in staging at the drags so that the low speed air across the ICs can hopefully take away more heat.

Default I added a manual override to the IC kit for exactly that reason...
