Default downpipe heat shields... yay or nay?

this is also posted in the C5 A6 forum.

so about 2-3 weeks ago i did piggie pipes and figured, ehhh why not leave the heat shields in since i didnt destroy them when taking out the pipes. so i put them back in and though everything was ok but now im getting an annoying rattling from the shields when i step on it... aghhh. so either i didnt tighten the bolts enough and one fell out or something else that i can think of. my question is was i stupid to put them back on in the first place (i.e. i should rip/cut them off now) or was i smart (i.e. figure out whats rattling and fix it). i know that most people say they are not necesary when he pre-cats are gone because there is no more restriction thus lower temps. is this true? TIA

Default Mine came out when downpipes were put on but then went back on when the engine came out for K04s.

Probably not 100% necessary, but I feel more comfortable having them in place. A lot of wiring sits above the turbos and downpipes.

Default leaving mine on post piggies

while having my turbos replaced it was discovered that my drivers side heat shield was missing. i had a wire melt that leads to a sensor which takes readings off the flywheel i believe. im on k03s with stock downpipes however. once that changes, i will leave them. i see no harm in them being there.

Default I left mine off, but wrapped the dps in exhaust wrap. Seemed like a pain to reattach.

Default Mine aren't there. No problems yet and I don't expect any

It makes changing the drivers side primary o2 sensor easier :-)

Default That's exactly why I kept mine in after Labrees went in. Just in case.
