Tony@EPL and I put together a nice 104 octane program for my car on Thursday evening for me to run on the dyno day. Here is my best curve vs. Mark P's best (both of us were running 104 octane, but Mark had the dumps open while I had a full exhaust).
(Red = Mark, Green = DAP) ![]() The smoothing on the graph obscures the fact that Mark had a few more peak HP than I did (469 vs 466). After the dyno day was wrapped up, Tony@EPL suggested we try opening up my exhaust to see if I would get similar results to Mark (he gained a dyno verified 40whp with the dumps). So I disconnected the v-band clamps on my ASP downpipes so that they were dumping before the cat/testpipe section. I definitely wouldn't run the car with the exhaust hanging like that on the street, but it was safe enough for a few dyno pulls. I was skeptical that I would see much, if any gains (didn't think my car had that much left in it), but I was happy to be proven wrong. ![]() The red and green curves are two open exhaust pulls vs. the blue which was my best pull from earlier in the dyno day (with the full exhaust). ![]() And the data sheet from one of the open exhaust pulls: ![]() So there you have it... open exhaust netted me an additional ~30 whp and ~20 wtq. Needless to say, we had some lengthy discussion about making some nice dump pipes for my car after seeing the results. ![]() -Dave Pramanik |
