Can some explain the B6 Shifter Retrofit?

I see people posting info on retrofitting the B6 Shifter assembly with a AMS Shifter. Just what exactly is changed?

What are the affects in comparison to a ToyGuy Shifter. I love the way a B6 shifter feels however I doubt just swapping in the shifter will make the tranny any smoother. Maybe so but I guess the question is what are the results? Shorter throw, smoother, shorter...etc?

I get several point of views not just the biast Point of view from the person trying to sell the service/product.

The kit is $429 + shipping. It consists of the AMS B6 short shifter, and a new carrier (the rails) assembly for retrofit. Basically it shortens the throw, and makes the throws smoother and "way" more precise than any B5 SS. The tech also said that it virtually eliminates any missed shifts (if you have them) and is basically second to none as far as quality and feel. There # is 310.763.8000 As far as real world experience I have 0 - just curious about the SS as well.
