Since I got my V1, I've had the remote display on the trim piece to the left of the steering wheel and have been happy with it there. Last year, I installed a Bluetooth hands-free car kit and also mounted the control unit in that area... it started to seem cluttered so I considered doing the remote display (I had seen the one ToyGuy did for Mark P and liked it a lot). I procrastinated for a while (as I'm known to do :P ) but finally broke down and contacted LI-S4 about having him do one for me.
He was VERY responsive and detailed all of the options that were available. I had already decided I wanted the mute button on the back of one of the stalks so I sent in my trim peice and remote display. Turnaround time was very short (less than a week, including shipping in both directions, IIRC) and installation was pretty painless. I had planned on putting the mute button on the cruise control stalk, but for some reason, it wasn't possible to route the wiring on that side of the steering column (LI-S4 indicated he had done this successfully on other B5s so it might just be something with my car). I instead put it on the back of the wiper stalk and I'm now used to the placement on that side. Ok, enough babbling... here are the pics you all clicked on the link to see :P This is where the V1 display was before (you can see the control unit for the Motorola IHF-1000 bluetooth kit): ![]() Here's the display on and off (flash makes it look like its all lit up but its not): ![]() ![]() Here's the mute button: ![]() -Dave Pramanik |

![]() i was one of the first 5-10 or so back in the day to get a toy guy display and have loved it since. looks like LI-S4 now makes one people can more easily get (sorry craig, i know you always meant well). now if LI_S4 could fashion a button on my door handle for mute I'd be all set..(hole drilled a long time ago, muffed installation at a GTG years ago...haven't bothered to ask craig to try again in years) you you see mine here for reference.... and no its not taht foggy out when i took tha tpicture...thats teh flash reflecting off the windshield.. |
