I've looked into it before and it doesn't look very easy, plus I think the intake/exhaust cam timing is variable.
Now if I had a spare set of heads I could play around with them and see if there is a way to get this to work. Supposedly MTM use 3.0 30v heads on their 602PS conversion for the RS4 (K16/24 hybrid turbos), but I'm finding this pretty hard to believe quite honestly... HTH, Mihnea

Maybe a custom timing belt setup could get this to work but sounds like more hassle than anything else to me....

If you are going to use the 3.0 heads then you should also use the aluminium 3.0 block. That's where the big advantage is as it is much lighter. I *think* it will handle reasonable power.
So then, the next question becomes "will the 3.0 long block mate up with a good intake port and exhaust system?" I think there is a lot of potential in this route but not sure it is worth being the first to try. As I said, you can get a lighter engine (and we all know the S4 is nose heavy). You also get a 3 litre engine instead of a 2.7. So that should give 11% more power. I've seen some photos of the bottom end of the 3.0. It looks pretty strong. Not sure it is as strong as the S4 and RS4 blocks. But probably strong enough for any reasonable application. Stephen |
