Default so i finally made a decision in regards to fueling the K04s that i got. [long]

this is going to be long, but i figure what the hell, im sure there are plenty of members confused as hell on what to do when/if they get K04s separate from a off the shelf kit:

1) homebrew stage 3: idea seems like it will work fine, and there are many to prove that is surely does work. bigger injectors, new MAF, MBC and TCD are the major components of a homebrew setup with running K03 X-Chip with K04s. now, i backed off of this, cause i just dont have the time to spend logging and tweaking. i know power is to be made and well worth that time, but with my work schedule and traveling, i just cant come home to taking the car out to log crap. so in the end...NO HOMEBREW FOR ME.

2) stage 3-: stick with my stock injectors, no major new hardware, except maybe a TCD and/or MBC and run the car "safely". no high RPMs, and lower the boost. well, this would have worked well if i didnt have any more cash to throw into this event. but since i did, this option more or less, just was not for me.

3) GIAC stage 3- software: another good option for not running a TCD or MBC, but again falls back into the category of: if you are going to do this job...do it right. so this option i left as well.

4) ASP fueling kit: called mark at Autospeed directly and talk to him about what that kit has to offer me. he is quite knowledgable no question at all, however without every really getting a ride in a K04 car with that fueling kit, i feel like i would have taken a chance even though the kit was $1695 with all necessary hardware, and chip tuning. if i was local to NJ, i surely would have went this route, but in the end dropped it too.

5) APR K04 fueling kit: sounds great. bottom line...big $$$$ for it, and the answer was quite simple there for me, pass.

6) AWE fueling kit: i called mike @ awe tuning and we discussed this option over. i want something i can plug and play, get great power, still have some safety coming from the ECU, and be done with it. holiday sale helped, and after speaking to MANY of you guys via email...i have decided to go with the AWE fueling kit.

so to complete the ENTIRE package: K04s (plain jaine), hardware, inlet piping, RS4 clutch, re-surfaced stock flywheel, AWE fueling kit, AWE test pipes, and a lil bling with the RNS-E nav unit.

never really paid so much attention to all the treads in the past on all this, so for me this week was ALOT of research via STFA. i think i made the right decision for me and my S4, and hope i can help anyone else out who needs it in regards to all this.

already sold off my M Box ABT/AMS chip to a local new S4 owner, so that helped recoup some cost.

also, im holding off on upgraded AWE or RS4 ICs, and a bi-pipe until the summer.

as soon as all my parts arrive, the car will go under the knife at GRD in Naperville, IL and i will report back with my new found power later in jan if not spring time, when the car is back out of the garage.

Default In the same boat, quick question...

I will probably go with AWE fueling as well.
They provide the GIAC chip, is it an ECU or just the module? I currently have an APR chipped ecu.

Default not sure of the breakdown, but i was under the impression that the APR fueling would be approx

the same price, if not a tad lower.

i haven't broken down the total costs for either lately, so i could be wrong of course.

that said, naturally, i still i love my AWE kit

Default ah sorry, didn't see that thread

like i said, pricing the "fueling kit" alone can get sticky, both tuners prefer to sell complete stg3 kits.

Default Is it not possible to tune a home brew kit for once for given hardware and be done with it?

I can understand the lack of time to constantly tinker and I can also understand that there are folks who enjoy the constant tinkering probably as much as the results (or more!).

But isn't there some middle ground? Is it possible to put in the K04s with the other hardware you mention and homebrew tune it once to a point of good, safe power and just drive it? It doesn't fall out of tune or anything, right?

Default Hey Mike I also ordered the fueling kit from you guys. What are my options for getting ...

the race gas program as well. Do I have to buy the whole $600 add on package?

Thanks,

Tommy.
