I am a little bit confused about gearing.
Even searching through the old messages I couldn't figure if there is difference between US spec. S4 gearing and the Euro-spec. My car is a 2000 Euro-spec. Audi S4. Now stage 3* My car does more than 60mph @ 4200rpm and more tan 97mph@6500rpm. Reading MarkP`s site (http://ctny.audiworld.com/mark/s4/gears/ ) I thought that the gearing was the same, but in many posts regarding FATS (including those tables for comparison with other cars) there are allusions to FATS being ~60 to 90mph. Something like ~58mph to 91mph. I read the EdyJun site and there the things become even worst. Here FATS are more likely 4200-6500 with my gearing http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2126704.phtml , but in the line below it is 60mph to 90mph http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2148457.phtml. So what is the correct FATS that I need to make? 4200-6500rpm or ~60-90mph ? Preliminary run with 5 people on board, 40oC outside and running 17psi of boost showed 5,2seg 4200-6500rpm (~63mph to 97mph). According to EdyJun`s estimation ~310whp. Thanks PS: mboxS4, soon I will post all my "via crucis" on making my car run again. |

So I guess there is a little difference in gearing.
We use the 60-90 number to compare to other vehicles since publications use it as an acceleration benchmark.

Shifted at or damn near redline in 3rd below 100 MPH. FATS ended at ~90 MPH.

Interesting. So, MarkP and EdyJun worksheets are wrong. They are using 1,23 gearing for 3rd gear.
US-Spec should use 1,305 3rd . I used this: http://ctny.audiworld.com/mark/s4/gears/ Is that correct? |
