I just got mine replaced today, and I think the side molding was done incorrectly (looks like it's on top of the glass, not surrounding it). I can see under the side molding to the edge of the glass, which tells me that it was done incorrectly (and is subject to leaking). Anyway, before I go back in there, this is a good time to confirm that I got the correct windshield - maybe I got one that doesn't fit properly?
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could confirm these markings on the lower driver's side corner of the windshield: (PPG logo on left of the first three lines) SOLEX DUPLATE LAMINATED 5 DOT563AS1M650 2 FW2262

![]() Is it Chinese PPG? If so, there is no way it will ever fit. Even non-Chinese PGP are small and need to be fit perfectly not to show at the edges. I gave up on PPG. :-/ Stephen |

One of the locals who just had his replaced with PPG and who has a perfect fit has "124" also. Mine simply has "2". Also, all other numbers sync'd with his, but my DOT number differs from yours, as well as the number above the DOT number. Is the "FW2262" the part number? If so, is that the only one that's meaningful?
I don't know whether it's Chinese. The only markings I have are the ones I posted.

![]() The pictured one is the Chinese PPG that was ripped out. As I said, I gave up on PPG. I really don't know what the codes mean. I'd guess that different plants might have different DOT codes. They also could be PPG's codes to tell them what batches, etc. I seem to recall another sign on the windshield that it was Chinese made. But it is so long ago now. I'd guess yours isn't Chinese but still hasn't been fit perfectly. I had that happen with the first PPG that was put in. Even non-Chinese PPG are small. Stephen |

But the problem with Pinkerton is that they are soft and sandblast quickly.
PPG and Pinkerton make the OEM windshield. So even with the Audi rings you still have a PPG or Pinkerton windshield. :-/ Not sure if anyone else makes one. Next time I will try to see if I can find a different brand. I don't think so. Stephen |

I had a choice of places to get mine replaced, under the full glass coverage on my insurance policy, and the place I ultimately chose was picked because they said they only used "OEM replacement" glass. I described some of the problems other have had with replacements and they assured me they only used "OEM glass". Well, turns out they consider the PPG to be OEM.
I haven't had any issues with mine after thousands of miles and a variety of weather conditions, including nearly 350 miles at freeway speeds in a hurricane-like downpour (literally 15' visibility max). Not a leak, no wind noise, nada. |

the sealing fo the windshield should is done by the adhesive that holds in the glass. It sounds like it may not be centered and should be redone for cosmetic appeal.

At least I can drive it until it's convenient to get it redone. I was worried about being out in the rain.
Thanks for the help, everyone! Now I can sleep easier tonight.

In fact, the glue has to be strong enough to prevent the windshield from being blown out when the passenger airbag goes off. So you want to make sure they use plenty of glue! :-p
