Default How are the springs on the rear brake pads supposed to be oriented?

Are they supposed to be squeezed together and fit inside the opening in the caliper, or are they supposed to be pressed apart and fit between the caliper and the rotor (basically, pushing the pad towards the hub)? I do it differently than a friend of mine, and neither of us remembers how they were oriented from the factory. Does anyone know for certain? FWIW, neither of us has any squeal, which is all I think the springs are for, anyway. Thanks.

Default So, pushing the pad towards the hub?

If so, I'm the one doing it wrong. :-(

Default I can tell you that one arm 'in' and one arm 'out' will result in a rattle from hell.

Don't ask me how I know!

They go inside as everyone already answered.

Default Now you're confusing me. "In" as in "inside" the opening in the caliper?

Default Sorry! In as in inside or underneath the capiper. Not poking "out" through the opening.

And yes, they push the pad toward the hub.
