Default DIY Bi-Pipe question for experts (especially Davenew and Blue2)...

How large of a hole and how deep should I drill them on the BiPipe to make the installation go smoother when I attempt to attach the pipe to the three Throttle Body mounting locations? I'm assuming that I shouldn't go all the way through, correct?

Also, I was just inspecting the APR-Bipipe and noticed some funky angles from the manufacturing process.

I had always assumed that everything would be symetrical from the center of the bi-pipe moving towards the ends. The photo below shows angles that are contrary to my assumptions(please excuse the poor Pshop skills).

Note: the white lines in the photo shows the relative locations of the three mounting locations to the throttle body on the bi-pipe. Red line shows axes of boost sensor mounting location.

Please tell me that this is nothing to worry about. I tried looking at other sample photos to see if this is common, but I couldn't find any besides the one in APR's installation manual. Can any of you guys confirm for me if this was also the case with your bi-pipe? Please tell me I didn't just receive a defective part.

TIA!

Default Blue2 suggested that I might want to enlarge the three mounting holes to deal with the tight...

tolerances when I go to install. I'm hoping to avoid this at all cost, but wanted to check in case I ever have to do this.

My interest right now is the funky angles...is that normal, Jason?

Default That's retarded. There's been hundreds of those things installed without drilling them.

The map sensor is angled to fit the front cover, iirc. I don't run the front cover but that's why the stock boot is angled

Default Phew! Thanks for the confirmation on the angles. Glad I checked with you, Uli and Jason. Graci!

Default Just tap the bipipe with a rubber mallet to secure it before tightening the bolts into the tb. The

only two things that can go wrong on a bipipe installation are stripping those threads on the tb or breaking the tabs on the timing belt covers.

Put the bipipe in the ic hoses, put the top onto the tb, push the bipipe as far on as you can, tap the bipipe with a rubber mallet (preferably some kinda dead blow but not required), then secure the tb bolts, then do the timing belt cover bolts.

If you have phenolic spacers the timing belt cover bolts won't fit.

Default When I installed mine, I was a complete mod retard - - even I put it in without drilling anything...

I do not remember the holes at all, just put the thing on, line the holes up and everything fit fine.

FWIW, I'm slightly less of a mod retard now.

Default wait until you drive the car for the first time after installing it, you'll be certain.....

something is broken.

Then, you'll come on here and worry out loud, then people will make fun of you. Then, you'll calm down until the next mod and it starts all over again.

It's a disease.
