anyone with first hand experience care to comment on these 2 winter tires? in the past i have had Dunlop M2s and Michelin Artic Alpins on my Audis. it is time to get some good winter rubber for my ride and it seems these are both good tire choices that i can easily get.
FYI, i live full time in N. Tahoe which means a winter tire has to be good in the deep wet snow and slush. and it also has to be good for dry as we can have fairly long spells of no snow and for highway cruising to the "big" cities like Reno or Sac. so.... any thoughts? or Sac

running on Nokian WRs (for the winters), but that may not be aggressive enough for you for the snow in N. Tahoe.

i don't know how they ride, but i have heard from my Audi mechanic that the M3s don't last as long as the older M2s. i dunno if this is true or not.
care to elaborate your experiences w/ the M3's or Blizzaks?

them and the car was predictable and kept its traction even when i tried to skid it ... really great stuff. I say M3s and LM-25s because whenever this question is asked it always comes down to the M3s or the LM-22s (LM-25s now which are improved over the LM-22s) ... I would buy the LM-25s again and again because there is no reason not to, IMHO.

wasn't outstanding in deep snow. for me (live in SF go up to Tahoe several weekends) it's fine, but i've gotten stuck a couple of times in deep snow . . . ok, maybe i should have raised my suspension a bit too!!!
but if i lived up there i wouldn't choose the Pilot Alpins. |

I take I-80 up to Truckee several times (5-10 weekends) each winter on my M2s. Car does fine. It gets a little squirrly when trying ot change lanes over those tire tracks when lots of snow has fallen. Otherwise they are fine for Tahoe. If you need to drive on dry pavement a lot (like it sounds like) I wouldn't get the squishy Blizzak models (which are awesome in the deep snow).

snow or ice categories. the Pilot Alpins were superior in the dry and for comfort.
m3 is top, lm-25 is too new for providing these ratings. |
