Default Need some input on vents for hoods.

After STFA, I've seen many CF hoods with vents from FI and VIS. Is there any specific why the vents are generally in the front and towards the sides? Athey trying to get air flow over the top of the bumper into the engine compartment? Or do you just want vents near the back to have exit of hot air, instead of inflow of cool air? I've been staring at my engine and trying to determine where vents can be placed that woulnd't put any electrical parts at risk. I might just have an body shop hack up my hood and try it. Weight savings is not a big issue for me so I don't need CF. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Default I would..

Have one vent on the front right to allow more air infow into the air intake (if you have an open-air filter...not a airbox).
I think all the others are more for bling than anything else, but I could be wrong.

Default I went for the vents, allowing hot air to escape.... placement has been zero issue with my Northeast

weather. yes water does get into them, but has not cause any issues with electronics.

Default all steel work..... here are some in progress pics....

As someone who works in carbon every day, II prob could have made it on a carbon hood, and I'm sure it would have been easier than the metal, but I really didn't care about the weight savings vs. the sturdyness of the oem unit....

here are some pics of the fab process (2 different hoods)....

Default I saw pix of this car in my archive search...

Then I went out to my car to see if those sites made sense. It seems that the water would drip down right over the airbox, and on the other side has nothing too fragile.
I dont suppose if you placed a vent near the back center, you can create some sort of "rain gutter" to funnel the rain to a better spot.

Default for me it was just allowing heat to escape,,,, but asthetics were equally important. I guess you

could slap it on the back,,,, it's all going to do the same job of getting rid of that extremely hot air, just personally it's gonna look like ass back there....

from a working standpoint, no actual numbers to show underhood temps are significanty lower, but at min. when I run the car and get out and feel over the vents it is very hot, so I know they are doing there job.

Default not to rain on your parade, but that's not a mr2 turbo engine lid.

That looks like a 85-89 mr2. The same vent holes can be found on a 91-95 non-turbo mr2.
