Default My 2001.5 has ESP. I never looked under the seat of 2000. It is

very clear that is the ESP box. It looks just like the ECU, but sasy ESP (or ABS, I can't remember). The addition of ESP may be when the changes referenceed in the article happened.

Default locks are vaccuum actuated- central locking module has lotsa 1/8" OD tubes coming out of it.

Did your box in the back seat have lots of tubes, or JUST wires? I think that if it doesn't have vacuum tubes, it's probably just the ESP module. Can you STFA for the part number on the box you found? It's some kind of BOSCH part, right?

Default Um, according to the 2nd PICTURE from the bottom, the box that says ESP is probably

Default <Swears in frustration and gets beer from fridge>

Well, I don't have ESP as evidenced by my lack of the silver box on the left side of the seat. I unplugged the box protected by foam in the right corner and guess what...
the locks still work! I still don't know what that thing is.
I don't see anything that looks like vacuum lines. I'll wait until it's a little cooler and go look again. I don't really care that much about this project, but it just pisses me off that we can't seem to find such a simple widget.

Default Good luck to you, I really hope you can figure it out, I hate how my remote works only 10ft away
