Well, time for my second post here. Been a while since my first one. I, like many people here, was getting codes for the EGT sensor #2 the infamous driverside one. Well I ordered the new sensor from ECS, got it today and began the process of replacing the bad one. And I have good news, no I didnt save any money on my car insurance but I did manage to get the sensor out of the top of the car, not underneith like is suggested, and I must say it really wasnt that bad. This is also my first time wrenching on this car with no manuals, just tips from other AW members. All that had to be done, was remove the Y-pipe, reposition the radiator overflow tank, remove the vacuum pump( i think thats what that thing was), remove some vacuum hoses in the area. Then deep down is a heat sheild that covers the turbo, I removed 2 little hex head bolts and was able to shift the sheild a little bit. Then with a 17mm wrench was able to reach down in there and break the thing free. Once broken free, you can just get it out by hand, replace with the new one, and do everything in reverse and you're done. I did try doing it from the underside, but man it was just way to hard to reach around in there, not to mention being upside down. At least remove the belly pan so if you drop any screws they'll hopefully fall all the way to the ground. Thats what I had to do in short. Sadly I didnt take any photos, as my hands were filthy most of the time, and I just wasnt thinking about taking photos at the time. Took me about 6 hours total time to do, 2 hours were wasted trying to figure out how to get the car raised with my equipment and another hour removing the driverside tire and a little shroud around the axel to even see the sensor from underneith. But in can be done from the top!! Anyway just thought I'd share my Friday adventure with the S4.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.
