Default Need some help with DTC: Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1: air flow too low #17831

Yes I STFA, but there is nothing conclusive on this one. Is the air injection speaking about the turbos? Or some pollution controll crap? Thanks in advance.

Default This might be some help

I had a code like this on my A4 2.8 and it referred to part of the smog equipment. The problem was caused by rotting vac hoses leading to the air injection valves. On the 2.8, they are located on the back of the engine, one each side, near the fire wall. Don't know for sure if the 2.7t is the same, but you might want to look around back there for some vac lines.

hope that helps,
Dave

Default Yep, that's emissions control stuff. The blower is right under the foam covered part

of your brake booster line and it branches out to a silver hatted valve at the back of each cylinder bank.

The silver hatted valves are vacuum operated so if you have a code for only one side, it is likely the vacuum line to that valve or the valve itself.

BTW, extra air is injected since the engine starts up rich to get the cats off to a quick start. It's only on tips, though, but I'm not sure why.

Default Interesting you say that. My car starts a little rough sometimes.

Then it suddenly idles fine after about 15 seconds. This is good info. I'll pop the hood in the AM. Are these expensive parts?
