Default Looks like I finally discovered the max oil change interval (Blackstone discussion inside)

I did my 60k service last week, which included an oil change. The oil was in for 9073 miles (Mobil 1 0W40) and 9 days at the track. The previous interval was 7875 miles and several track days. This is the first time that one of the measurements (iron) came in at a noticeably higher level - 32ppm vs 21ppm average. Here's what Blackstone said:

"The universal averages column shows typical wear from this type of engine after 6,300 miles on the oil. This oil was in use 9,073 miles, plus it saw nine days on the racetrack. That may
explain the higher than average amount of iron (from any steel part sharing the oil). All other metals were average. Both air and oil filtration was normal. We did not find any fuel, water or anti-freeze in this sample. We suggest staying around the 8,000-mile range for oil changes because of running the car at the track and resampling to monitor engine wear."

So, it looks like I finally found my personal ceiling based on how I use my car. I'll go for an 8000 mile interval this time (including a few track days, of course), and see what they have to say. As always, I think this service is well worth the money, as it allows me to maximize my oil value and peek inside my engine.

I'd host the report itself, but I suck at web publishing. If you want to know any of the values, just ask. All three of my previous Blackstone reports are available in the archives.

Default You can't take a picture and post it?

:-P

I was beginning to wonder if all their responses were canned. Nice to know their testing will actually uncover an issue if there is one. You're right, you're the first to come back with a "dirty oil" report. I'm not sure whether that earns you a gold star, or a week in the penalty box though.

Default Won't it be compressed in size by the pic poster? I'll try it tonight if I have time.

With each report, it becomes more useful to see the past results and compare them all. It probably would be good for some of the oil gurus to check it out.

Default Probably a gold star and a week in the penalty box.

They told me to do an 8000 mile interval, but I was impatient and wanted to shoot for 9000 this time. Gold star for finding my personal cap, penalty box for disobeying and running long enough to get the oil dirty.

Default That's why you don't host it on AW's picture poster.
