Default APR ECU Explorer -- New Version

In my pursuit to understand my S4 better I have out grown the Vag Com (USB-Key) and am moving on to the APR ECU Explorer. But when I called my local APR dealer they did not have the ECU Explorer in stock. So I called APR's main number. By the time I had hung up the phone I was told that there will be a new version of it in several months (his guess was 5-6 months) and that this new version will be much more user friendly and more flexible because it will be re-written in a different computer programming language.

BUT if you already have the current version the upgrade is NOT free (as far as he knows). I was told they are not sure how much it will cost but if he would have to guess, between $50-$75. (Keep in mind it could be much more -- this is just a guess). Also once they release the new version the price of ECU Explorer will go up.

So now I have 2 options.

1. Buy the current version and hope that the upgrade will not cost another $150.
2. Wait and buy the new version and pay the premium price.

I am leaning toward #1 since my turbos are dieing and the dealer is going to replace them soon. I want some base line data before the turbos get changed.

Any comments?

Thanks
Edy

Default Go ahead and buy it now if you'll get use out of it. Why wait (m)

some unknown amount of time that could be longer than they anticipate, like that's never happened to APR before. And when it does come out, it's going to be more user friendly? The current version isn't difficult to use. More flexible, I'd be interested to hear how so. The current version logs over 20 variables simultaneously around 14 samples per second. What more do you need? I couldn't see paying more for some minor improvements, and if the changes are significant, you can upgrade.

Default 2nd. I don't see how it could really improve that much. Current version is fine IMO.

Default You paid for what you already own, and it works, right?

If they are going to invest 6-9 months into making it something better than it is now, doesn't that deserve an additional expense? If not, then they shouldn't bother to make improvements if they're just wasting their time. Heck, an Audi dealer charges $75 for an hour. If they invest another 6 MONTHS, $75 seems cheap to contribute to reap the benefits. And of course, you get to decide if you want to upgrade - no one is making you change, right?

For the record, I do know that this newer version is being worked on. It is being rewritten to allow upgrades to be implemented easier. I don't know of specific new features, but I do know that most of my issues and suggestions I have described will be implemented. I have never heard of any guestimate on anything pricing related, so I can't comment on that.
