This info is for users who are already knowledgeable on ECUx. The info/templates below will aid in logging data and graphing it.
The general flow is: A.) Log data with a Group File that defines the variables you wish to log. (currently 29 variables) B.) Save and Export that log to CSV. C.) Cut & Paste the valid data range into an Excel template that I've created, which automatically creates graphs. (currently ~20 graphs) My Group File (typical7.egp) is set to log the following variables: TIME RPM EngineLoad BoostPressureDesired BoostPressureActual BoostFrequencyValveDutyCycle IntakeAirTemperature ThrottlePlateAngle IgnitionRetardCyl1 IgnitionRetardCyl2 IgnitionRetardCyl3 IgnitionRetardCyl4 IgnitionTimingCyl1 IgnitionTimingCyl2 IgnitionTimingCyl3 IgnitionTimingCyl4 IgnitionTimingAngleOverall MassAirFlow AirFuelRatioDesired VehicleSpeed Gear IgnitionRetardCyl5 IgnitionRetardCyl6 IgnitionTimingCyl5 IgnitionTimingCyl6 EngineLoadSpecified EngineLoadCorrectedSpecified FuelInjectorOnTime BaroPressure And I compute these using some of the available variables above: Accel (G) Req_Boost_PSI Act_Boost_PSI Fuel_Inj_Duty_Cycle I have 3 different Excel templates which are set up for the following: Typical template 7.xls : This is the one I use most often. It is designed to be used to log a single gear (any gear) pull and graph from 3000 to 7200 RPMs. I typically use this to log 3rd gear pulls from 45mph (~3200 RPMs) to redline (~100mph). This template has 4 tabs set all the same so you can paste up to 4 logs in this one file without modification. 2control_2variable_Compare_template 2.xls : This template is very similar to the first in that it has 4 tabs which appear similar, however the first 2 tabs are labeled "control" and the second 2 are labeled "variable". There is a 5th tab labeled "Compare". This 5th tab's set of graphs contain all of the graphs overlayed from the previous 4 tabs. The graph lines/datapoints are color-coded such that the data from the Control tabs is Red, while the data from the Variable tabs is Blue. This template provides a nice easy way to compare changes to your car (ie software program), or differences in one car to another. Typical template 7_timebased.xls : Sometimes you are not only concerned with the data during a controlled single gear pull, but want to see data across gears - well that's what this template is designed for. The x-axis is now time, instead of RPM. I use this one for graphing a complete dragstrip run. Here's how I go through this flow: Log data with a Group File that defines the variables you wish to log. 1.) Open ECUx 2.) Open Group File -> Select "typical7.egp" 3.) Click "Log This Group" 4.) When Graphing screen comes up, I "maximize" it. (Due to the large # of variables, and my laptop resolution, the bottom of this window goes off the screen, so maximizing it fits it to the full screen) 5.) Click "Start" 6.) Do whatever you want to log 7.) Click "Stop" Save and Export that log to CSV. 8.) Click "Save Log". I usually use the default filename and append it with the temperature while taking the logs. Click OK. 9.) Close the Graphing screen 10.) Close the Group File variable list screen. 11.) Open Log File -> Select the log file you just made. 12.) Click the "Export to CSV" button. Use the default filename and click OK. Copy & Paste the valid data range into an Excel template that I've created, which automatically creates graphs. Basically all you need to do is identify and copy the data from the runs. This can be done many ways. I choose to use Throttle Angle (looking for WOT) to identify these regions. 13.) Open the CSV file you previously exported. 14.) Right click on the "2" for Row #2, and select "Insert" (This separates the data from the column headings) 15.) Click on the top data entry for "ThrottlePlateAngle". As my Group File is set, this will be cell H3. 16.) Click on the "Sort Descending" button (Z->A) (so that the throttle angle of 100 will be at the top) 17.) Scroll/Page down until you find the last Throttle Angle of 100. 18.) Click and hold on that one and drag upwards so you are selecting all of the datapoints where Throttle Angle = 100. 19.) Once those are all selected, set the "Fill Color" of those to Yellow (so they can be easily identified later) 20.) Click on the top "Time" datapoint (cell A3) 21.) Click on the "Sort Ascending" button (A->Z) (this will put the data back in the original order) 22.) Now scroll/page through your data until you find those areas highlighted in yellow showing you were you were WOT. This should be where you performed your pulls. Note, you may have gone WOT at other times which are also highlighted, and you may also have been performing a pull but ThrottlePlateAngle was not a full 100, so these areas are not highlighted but still valid. Just use the highlights to help you find the data points you want. I usually look at the RPMs at the beginning and end of a pull and only copy the values while they are still in ascending order, regardless of Throttle Angle, etc. 23.) Copy that section of datapoints (hint: sometimes it's easier to make your Ecxel view at 75% or 50% to highlight the cells) and paste it into whatever template is right for your situation. 24.) If I'm graphing less than 4 pulls in "Typical template 7.xls", I'll delete the unused tabs to keep the filesize smaller. 25.) When saving this file, be sure not to save it over the clean template. You might want to save this with it's new name before you even paste data into it to be sure. To save this with the same name as the CSV file, I... click "save as" and then change the "Save as type" to CSV. This will allow me to see a list of my CSV files. I select the CSV file that this data came from, and after clicking once on that, then change the "Save as type" back to XLS. 26.) And finally, if I want to post a graph or two, I click on the graph and copy it and then paste it into Microsoft Paint and save it as a .gif and upload to the web. Group File: typical7.egp Excel Templates: Typical_template_7.xls 2control_2variable_Compare_template_2.xls Typical_template_7_timebased.xls Completed Examples: Typical_template_7.xls Example 2control_2variable_Compare_template_2.xls Example Typical_template_7_timebased.xls Example More Details The above should provide a good amount of data in the Group File variable selection and a method to easily graph that data. I've covered the most commonly used variables, and many more. There may be too many, or not enough variable for your desire, so you may want to modify these files as appropriate.
