Default Is is fairly common? Any rough numbers on that vs other failures?

No real warning signs in my experience, though the car seemed randomly a touch slow the day before, but then it was fine. The morning it blew, I got on it after it warmed up to see if it was fine, boost for a second of two, then ZING, and the car bucked. Had to unplug the maf to get home, thought it was a blown off hose since there was no smoke. I pressure tested, there was no leak.

Car started very lightly smoking about 5+ miles later after driving it to work and the shop to drop it off.

Default i'd say maybe one in ten failures is due to that? rough numbers of course

but they wont fail as soon as the fin falls off because it is the out of balance because of that lost fin that will cause the turbo to destroy itself. That is probably why the delay in your case

Default Thanks! I could tell audibly that something was wrong, but until I pressure tested it sounded like a

hose popped off. I stayed out of the gas as much as possible, not that it made much boost anyway I'm just glad I was able to make it around without needing a flatbed or killing any sensors/cats.
