Default Istook/Aines receives ROYAL PURPLE OIL /STOP TECH BRAKE sponsorship

We received sponsorship today from Royal Purple Oil co. For those of you that don't know, Royal Purple (yes, it is purple oil) is a synthetic that has weights down as low as 0w15. We had been using their Racing 9 (0w30) oil in one of our racing Porsches as a trial and had no camshaft wear...checking it on a regular basis.

We have been using Racing 21 in our AUDIs for the entire 2001 season..again...excellent lubrication on our turbo engines....no coking...no foaming...valve guides and stems/camshafts are excellent.

Another product we have been using and stand behind are the STOP TECH brake rotors and hats. We had used a major brand for many races and were changing rotors almost every race. When we changed to STOP TECH, we started going 3-4 races without changing them...partly because of their floating hat design...we get less rotor flex...more consistent brake pedal and better pad wear. If you go to http://www.stoptech.com/ you will find a significant amount of brake research and informative information. These guys have done there homework. I mentioned today to Bob Lee, director of marketing about a post of "clunking" noises from pads with STOP TECH...within minutes, his brake engineer responded to the post with useful infpormation.

Other sponsors that we have include TURBOXS (supplies our H34 blow off valves), SPEEDTECH, FIKSE WHEELS, and H & R SPRINGS.

All of these names represent products that I chose to use in our cars because of what they did for our racing, not for what they would give me.

I think that you will find that I believe in the products that we use and won't carry a name on the car unless I feel that the product is worthwhile.

Co-driving with me in our #04 car for Daytona is Alex Lince from Bogota, Columbia. He is bringing NATIONAL CAR RENTAL sponsorship to the team.

Thanks for all the "good Luck" responses for our upcoming race season.

I have several products that I am developing...front camber/caster adjustors, rear camber adjusting upper control arm, mounting brackets for RS4 intercoolers...and a few more. Josh Decker at ACHTUNING will be handling distribution of these. Machine work is underway on some of these products...but DAYTONA comes first.....

Default Hey, Don, Did you do up the decaling of your race car yet?

I took on a project designing a friend's 996 race car, and Steve S. suggested I give you a ring.

Thought I'd help a Audi racer out. If you haven't done it, email me some pics (profile/front/rear).

I'd be ecstatic if I can do an Audi up in style!!

Default Here's what was done up....(edited)

This is a 3D model. I'm working on a revised version as this car (since his car is a dark gray originally), would cost around $6K to do this. I guess those 3M wraps are expensive to do.

(edit) I just did the design. Jack got a quote from a guy who does wraps and that quote was 6K to implement the design. I just did this as a favor, and as it was an interesting challenge for me.

Default Why do you run blow off valves instead of bypass valves?

IIRC, the Champion Audi's run blow off valves too. What's the advantage?

Default I have the same question, and am interested in a response, even if it's application specific

Default Re: Why do you run blow off valves instead of bypass valves?

First off, I am certainly not an engineer...but what we do on our car certainly does work, as we keep getting faster with the car with each change that we make. It was told to me by an engineer that dumping the boost would create several problems...none of which have shown up. These same engineers would have me running 2 1/4 to 2 1/2" downpipes instead of the 3" that we run (we run 3" downpipes merging into 4" mandrel bent tubing all the way to the rear of the car).

When the throttle is closed, we want to dump the pressure in the intake tubing as quickly as possible to keep the turbos spinning...with a closed throttle, the pressure will back up in the intake side and greatly reduce the pinwheel speed of the impeller.

Our large TURBOXS H34 valves have a 1 3/8" opening to vent this pressure. We have basically zero lag with this system...and no, we don't belch out black smoke and we don't go rich on shifts and we have a smooth idle.

Let's just say...I like the noise...if nothing else.

Default Thanks...

I was just curious as this has been a subject of debate around here. Hearing about Champion running them and now you I thought i'd ask. To my knowledge I haven't heard of any ill effects running either type of valve.

Default Just curious, did you get $$ from Royal Purple...

...or just free oil? My cousin was offered "sponsorship" by them for the Trans-Am series a few years ago. Their deal was FULL HOOD sponsorship for the whole season in return for... are you ready... free oil. If he was independantly wealthy and spending 100's of thousands of $$ out of his own pocket to run the Trans-Am series for fun he might have taken them up on it.

He (we) still uses their products though. A friend of his works for a Dodge Supertruck team. They tested every oil they could get their hands on and found Royal Purple and Mobil 1 to be the 2 best.

I asked about 0W30 for my last oil change and was told they didn't make it, so I went with Mobil 1. I'll have to look into Racing 9 and see if that will work for my S.

Best of luck this season.
